Being Human‘s Sam Huntington to guest star on Warehouse 13
by Doc on Mar.12, 2012, under Television
I started hearing about this on the weekend, but finally got official word: Being Human‘s resident werewolf, Sam Huntington, will guest on an episode of Warehouse 13 in the upcoming season as a jazz musician named Ethan. Warehouse 13‘s 4th season is currently in production in Toronto, Canada.
Said Warehouse 13 executive producer Jack Kenny: “We love bringing other Syfy icons on to Warehouse 13… There’s something they just “get” about the genre. People like Kate Mulgrew, Lindsay Wagner, Jaime Murray and Rene Auberjonois know that delicate balance we play between humor, drama and action. And Sam Huntington is a natural fit for us. Funny, charming, smart and compelling, he plays ‘Ethan’ — a young jazz musician, desperate to leave his mark on the world of New Orleans jazz — even if it means a great sacrifice.”
Sam’s natural wittiness should be a good fit for the Warehouse 13 style.

Ben Browder to guest star on Doctor Who!
by Doc on Mar.08, 2012, under Television
Hearing from multiple sources – the latest Doctor Who Magazine features an article about the next series of Doctor Who featuring an episode set in the “Wild West” of America, although it is shooting in Spain…but also that Farscape and Stargate SG-1 alum Ben Browder will guest star in the episode!
He won’t be “getting the band back together” though…don’t expect his twice-co-star Claudia Black to be joining him.
Browder was most recently seen in one of the last episodes of Chuck.

We’ve got some more cast and production info for the upcoming Canadian spin-off Primeval: New World, following last week’s news that Eureka‘s Niall Matter will star in the series. And it includes some Sanctuary/Stargate SG-1 relationships as well!
Sara Canning (The Vampire Diaries) will star as a predator expert, opposite Matter’s inventor and hero character. Miranda Frigon (Heartland), Geoff Gustafson (Once Upon a Time) and Danny Rahim (Young James Herriot) will co-star.

A sneak peek at Syfy’s Total Blackout
by Doc on Mar.06, 2012, under Television
We got a special preview of the new competition show Total Blackout back in October (including a great demonstration by Eureka‘s Colin Ferguson), but here’s an all new sneak peek of the show, hosted by Jaleel White (who, incidentally, will also be appearing on ABC’s Dancing With The Stars this season).
It’s a competition that you never saw coming where contestants battle each other and their fears in a series of challenges, confronting their own worst enemy – themselves. However, there is a twist — all the challenges are played in complete darkness; no lights, no blindfolds and no-holds barred as the players face their fears and unexpected surprises in a series of nerve-wracking games. Catch the sneak peek and tune in to the premiere of Total Blackout on Wednesday, April 25th at 10/9c.

Terra Nova officially canceled by Fox, but being shopped to other networks
by Doc on Mar.06, 2012, under Television
Word came late last night that Fox has officially canceled Terra Nova. The move is definitely not surprising, as Fox has been hesitant to pull the trigger for so long, which would have made getting a second series completed on time a struggle. The network had been trying to figure out how they might be able to produce a second season much cheaper than the first, with the producers bringing forward a number of potential showrunners the take the reins.
But hope is not lost yet – 20th TV will begin shopping the show to other networks. It’s a long shot, but there could still be a chance.

Primeval: New World still on – and we’ve found one of the cast
by Doc on Mar.02, 2012, under Television
A Canadian spin-off of the ITV series Primeval was announced some time ago called Primeval: New World, but there hasn’t been much about it lately, until now. We’re hearing that SPACE in Canada (which is producing, and aired the original) will air the show later this year, along with Watch in the U.K. No U.S. outlet has been named yet (although I think it will be a toss-up between BBC America, which aired the original, and Syfy). Crossovers with the original cast are possible, but no one has said if they will happen, only that it is set in the same “universe”, so it’s not a reboot/remake like was done with Being Human.
And now we know at least one cast member. Niall Matter, who plays Zane on Eureka and was also recently on 90210, announced on Twitter today that he has signed on to play one of the leads. (Reports that the show was already “in the can” were wrong). Depending on the time it takes to deal with the visual effects, airing this Fall could be a challenge.
The 13-episode series is described as “darker and scarier” than the original, with a “younger and sexier” cast.
As for the original, no 6th series has been announced, despite being left with a bit of a teaser at the end…
