Doctor Who Experience to open in London in February
by Doc on Nov.04, 2010, under Fun Stuff, Television
Fancy a chance to experience a little time travel? The BBC is opening the Doctor Who Experience on February 16th, 2011 at London’s Olympia Two, where it will stay until sometime in 2012 when it will relocate to Cardiff for the longer term (and be near the current production offices). The exhibit will include costumes, the Tom Baker-era TARDIS exterior, and the TARDIS sets from both David Tennant and Peter Davison – along with newer items like the Pandorica and monsters and enemies from across time. And there will also be an interactive experience, where you can star in your own serial! “The Doctor Who Experience is a fan’s dream come true – a fully interactive adventure that will allow viewers of the show to get as close as possible to some of the scariest monsters from the series,” according to producer/writer Steven Moffat. “It will also be the first time that Doctor Who artefacts from all the show’s 47 year history – classic and new – will be on display together, many of them being seen for the first time. And never mind that, this is the day the Doctor teaches you how to fly the TARDIS through time and space, and takes you into battle with all his deadliest enemies in a brand new adventure. So steady your nerves and bring your own sofa – the Doctor needs you!”
Spielberg’s Terra Nova ejects writers
by Doc on Nov.03, 2010, under Television
Could Steven Spielberg’s Terra Nova series be in trouble? Insiders say no, but 20th Century Fox Television has apparently laid off the entire writing staff, although show runner Brannon Braga still remains. Fox has reportedly changed its mind about when to debut the series – originally planned as a mid-season January start, they have decided to postpone it until Fall 2011 and instead do a two-hour pilot movie to air in May. Letting the writers go is seen as a cost-cutting measure in the meantime, and the writers will be rehired if available when production picks up again – if it picks up. Welcome to Fox, Steven…have you met Joss?
AMC’s The Walking Dead eats lots of viewers brains
by Doc on Nov.01, 2010, under Television
Step aside vampires, the zombies are moving in…the premiere episode of AMC’s The Walking Dead, which got a lot of buzz at Comic-Con and through some viral marketing (the best kind to spread zombiism), killed (groan) in the Halloween night ratings with 3.3 million in the adult 18-49 demos and 5.3 million overall – better than any cable series premiere this year. There are 5 more episodes, but I have a feeling the zombies have moved into town for a longer dinner engagement…

Some answers from Syfy about Caprica
by Doc on Oct.29, 2010, under Television
After the announcement of the cancellation of Caprica Wednesday, there has been a lot of fan response – and a lot of it directed squarely at Syfy’s Twitter account. Craig Engler, the SVP of Syfy Digital and head Tweet, has crafted some responses, and I thought I’d pass them along…

Fact or Faked: Paranormal Files preview: “Haunted Mansion Mist/Starlight Intruder”
by Doc on Oct.28, 2010, under Television
Since I’ve got some Fact or Faked followers on Twitter now, here is a preview of tonight’s premiere.
Ben and the team set up a haunted mansion scene to replicate a video by creating a dust cloud using Fuller’s earth which is a clay-like material that’s very dry. They blow it into the cellar of the mansion with a shop-vac to create the right air flow, and you start to see the scene come alive and how close it is to the submitted video the team received. Tune in tonight, October 28th at 10/9c only on Syfy to see just how close they can get to the original scene.

Caprica has been canceled
by Doc on Oct.27, 2010, under Television
Rumors surrounded the possibility after the announcement of a new prequel series and the lack of a pickup order when other shows got theirs, but Syfy has now officially canceled Caprica. Remaining episodes are being pulled from the schedule, and will be aired in the first quarter of 2011. It’s too bad, as I think the show was just starting to hit stride.
Mark Stern, the executive VP for original programming, said in a statement, “”We appreciate all the support the fans have shown for ‘Caprica’ and are very proud of the producers, cast, writers and the rest of the amazing team that has been committed to this fine series. Unfortunately, despite its obvious quality, ‘Caprica’ has not been able to build the audience necessary to justify a second season.”
Out on Twitter, stars Allessandra Torresani and Sasha Ruiz showed their appreciation of fans. Allessandra said, “Its a very sad day….time for mama cylon to go cry a river! Its ok I have you lil cylons to make me smile! I love my fans! You make me smile! XXX,” while Sasha said, “My sincere gratitude to the fans. It was a joy to be a part of this quality show. Thank you for letting us into your home and imagination. It was a wonderful experience that I will always cherish. I’ll miss Sam and the world we created. Thanks again for following and supporting.”

About the Doctor Who regeneration limit…
by Doc on Oct.26, 2010, under Television
Note – this should be spoiler free, but it does talk about a line in the Sarah Jane Adventures episode that aired today in the UK (part 2 of “Death of the Doctor”), so if you don’t want to be spoiled about a line irrelevant to the plot, don’t read on.
So it seems the entire Whodom universe got its knickers in a twist about a throwaway line, although that was helped by things that Russell T. Davies said in the days leading up to it.
