Despite the scare that the voices of Futurama could be recast due to a dispute over salaries, the original cast has reached an agreement to return for the resurrected show, which will begin next year.

Torchwood: Children Of Earth DVD review…

by on Jul.27, 2009, under Television, Video/DVD

Torchwood: Children of Earth, which aired last week on BBC America is out on DVD and Blu-ray tomorrow, but I’ve had the opportunity to view the DVD today. I do not believe the Blu-ray differs in content, other than it has an HD audio track compared to the DVD’s standard Dolby 5.1 track (and of course, an HD transfer).

Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea: A Retrospective

by on Jul.27, 2009, under Television

The Thunder Child writes “If you’ve never heard of the iconic 1960s submarine adventure series Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea, starring Richard Basehart and David Hedison, now’s the time to rectify that error. Linda Delaney tells everything you need to now abut VTTBOTS, as its fans call it, and there are a few Youtube videos as well, including one with a couple of bloopers that show the camraderie that Basehart and Hedison had together. Check it out at http://thethunderchild.com/Television/1960s/VoyageBottomSea/VTTBOTS.html

Doctor Who: Planet Of The Dead in U.S. today, and repeat of Torchwood: Children Of Earth

by on Jul.26, 2009, under Television

Just a head’s up – BBC America, starting at 1:00pm ET, will be repeating Torchwood: Children Of Earth, starting with the “Inside The Hub” preview but without the “Inside Look” shorts. After that, at 8:00pm, the U.S. premiere of Doctor Who: Planet Of The Dead. I’m puzzled that SyFy has passed or at least is delaying the maxi-episodes, letting BBC America air them first, along with the DVD/Blu-ray release a couple of days later. If you don’t have BBC America, you can get Children of Earth on DVD/Blu-ray as well Tuesday.

Torchwood: Children of Earth comments…

by on Jul.24, 2009, under Television

I expect to have a full review of the show once the DVD shows up, but I’m halfway through watching the final part, and I’m still trying to pick my jaw off the floor. Can you imagine something so evil? And I’m not talking about the aliens. And will anyone survive? I mean, other than the guy who can’t die but would rather do so…

Battlestar tidbits from Comic-Con

by on Jul.24, 2009, under Television

I’m hearing some Battlestar Galactica buzz from a panel at Comic-Con…while Edward James Olmos touted is directorial effort for The Plan (and urged fans to buy the Blu-ray on October 27th), he said, “I can guarantee you this will not be the last movie on Battlestar Galactica.” Apparently he has written a script about what happens to Adama after we last saw him. In addition, Caprica will finally hit the air on January 22nd, 2010. Until then, there is only the DVD.

Cool site: Top 75 Spaceships in movies and TV

by on Jul.16, 2009, under Fun Stuff, Movies, Television

Just found out about this site: Top 75 Spaceships in movies and TV. Of course, with any such list, there will be debates about order and omissions – but there are ships on here that you may not have though of and belong. I don’t know about the number 1 position, but I always thought there was something very elegant about the Eagle from Space: 1999 deserving of #2.

Emmy nominations announced

by on Jul.16, 2009, under Awards, Television

The nominees for the 61st Primetime Emmy Awards are out, but it doesn’t look like there is much from the SF&F areas among the main awards (not really surprising). A quick glance shows Lost with a Best Drama nod, and Jim Parsons of Big Bang Theory getting a Best Actor In A Comedy nomination for his role as Sheldon, and Battlestar Galactica did get a Outstanding Directing For A Drama Series nod for the episode “Daybreak (Part 2)”
