Davies steps down from Doctor Who; Moffat take charge
by Doc on May.20, 2008, under Television
Russell T. Davies, has has been rumored, will step down as producer of Doctor Who, and writer Steven Moffat, who has written some of the best (and scariest) episodes, will take charge. This season he’s penned the two parter “Silence In The Library/Forest Of The Dead”, which is next up in the U.K. (although there is a week’s break this coming weekend due to the Eurovision Song Contest) and stars Alex Kingston, who U.S. viewers might recognize as Dr. Elizabeth Corday on ER. Moffat has been racking up BAFTA awards, having just received another one for the episode “Blink”, and also just completed the first screenplay for Tintin (based on a Belgian comic-strip hero), which Steven Spielberg will turn into a Dreamworks film.
Changing roles on Atlantis
by Doc on May.19, 2008, under Television
The upcoming fifth season of Stargate: Atlantis has a few personnel changes in store, although they are mostly expected. Robert Picardo (Richard Woolsey) takes over as the expedition commander, replacing Amanda Tapping (Colonel Samantha Carter), who is concentrating on her upcoming series Sanctuary; Jewel Staite (Dr. Jennifer Keller) has been promoted to regular cast member (she was a “recurring” cast member); Paul McGillion (Dr. Carson Beckett) will apparently be unfrozen at some point during the season for five episodes; Tori Higgenson (Dr. Elizabeth Weir) is definitely not appearing in Season 5; and Jason Momoa (Ronon Dex) is looking at life beyond Stargate: Atlantis after the next season…

Retro Review: Star Maidens
by Doc on May.14, 2008, under Television
I’ve been threatening to do this review for a while, and I’m pretty sure few of you have seen or even remember this show, but since I remember even the most useless of trivia, I hunted down this show to watch it again. Star Maidens can probably be summed up with: Only in the 70s…
Caprica, Eureka, Revolution castings
by Doc on May.12, 2008, under Television
It’d definitely Casting Call season. Several more casting announcements have been made regarding the upcoming Caprica, and the returning Eureka: Eric Stoltz (The Butterfly Effect, Mask) will play Daniel Graystone on Caprica, a tech wizard who is perhaps the creator of the Cylons; Alessandra Toressani (Malcolm In The Middle) plays his daughter Zoe. Also, Frances Fisher (Titanic) will join Eureka as a “fixer” coming in to fix Global Dynamics – and perhaps provide a love interest for Carter. Lastly, Peter Fonda (Escape From L.A.) joins the cast of the SCI FI Channel pilot Revolution as the patriarch of the family that rules the planet.
