Flash Gordon won’t be back

by on Apr.14, 2008, under Television

I was curious, having not heard anything about the fate of this show, so I did a little searching, and found out that the SCI FI Channel has quietly cancelled the show. Ratings apparently weren’t very good, and I wasn’t terribly impressed with the show in general. SFC president David Howe said that he felt “that the series wasn’t developed enough,” and that they may try the concept again in a few years.

Alien Nation movie collection on DVD

by on Apr.10, 2008, under Television

Alien Nation, even though it only lasted one full season on the fledgling FOX network, was popular enough to to spawn off not one but five TV movies – even though the first one (Dark Horizon) didn’t appear until 4 years after the series was canceled, resolving the season-ending cliffhanger. The series came out on DVD two years ago – finally, all five movies (Dark Horizon, Body and Soul, Millenium, The Enemy Within, The Udara Legacy) are being released in the Ultimate Movie Collection on April 15th. Read More for the press release, and expect a review this weekend. And if you can’t wait, catch a clip of the gag reel from Dark Horizon in Quicktime or Windows Media.

George Takei sings country; viewers tune out; CBS cancels show

by on Apr.10, 2008, under Television

Star Trek fan fave George Takei (Hikaru Sulu) tried to show is “country” side, singing “On The Road Again” on the CBS reality show “Secret Talent Of The Stars”. Fortunately, we won’t have to hear the likes of it again. The show, that featured the “talents” of Takei, Sasha Cohen (contortions), Clint Black (stand-up comedy), and Mya (tap dancing), had so many (of its few to start) viewers turn it off during the hour that CBS has already canceled the show. I bet CBS is really glad that the writer’s strike is over. Fear not, Sulu – your performance will live on thanks to YouTube…

SCI FI Channel plans a Revolution

by on Apr.03, 2008, under Television

The SCI FI Channel has signed for a new pilot called Revolution, about an Earth colony outpost in the 22nd century struggling with unrest. Billy Campbell (The 4400) stars as a soldier-turned farmer Tom Hart who may be the natural leader they need. Also starring are Rowena King (The Bucket List) as the new governor, and Steve Sandvoss (Kiss The Bride) as Hart’s older son.

NBC announcements: Heroes in, Origins out, more

by on Apr.03, 2008, under Television

Aside from Knight Rider, The Peacock has made a variety of SF-related announcements. First up is Heroes, which will return on September 15th, allowing time for the producers time to get ahead in planning, leading up to a 3-hour Heroes event, with a clip show and then a 2-hour movie. However, the planned prequel series Heroes: Origins has been scrapped. Medium has also been renewed. NBC also unveiled a late of new programs as well (see the article for all the details) that will air spread out over the next 18 or so months. Some interesting highlights: Merlin, starring Colin Morgan (mysteriously billed as being in Doctor Who, but I have no reference), exploring the lives of Merlin and Arthur before they became legends; and My Own Worst Enemy, starring Christian Slater, which sounds similar to the excellent British mini Jekyll, mixed with Bourne Idendity.

Battlestar Galactica Season 4 premiere preview

by on Mar.31, 2008, under Television

No, its not Yet Another YouTube video. I had the opportunity to watch the upcoming Season 4 premiere of Battlestar Galactica, “He That Believeth In Me”, which airs for you mere mortals this Friday (have I never mentioned that I’m a Time Lord? The TARDIS comes in handy when you can’t wait). I can’t discuss anything terribly important (can’t change the course of history, right?), but I can give you some thoughts…but you’ll need to click Read More to enable the telepathic link through your firewall (don’t worry, I won’t steal your passwords…I already know them)

Doctor Who premiere in the U.K. April 5th

by on Mar.27, 2008, under Television

The Series 4 premiere of Doctor Who will hit the airwaves in the U.K. on BBC One on Saturday, April 5th, at the earlier time of 6:20pm. Apparently producer Russell T. Davies isn’t happy about it, according to a posting on Gallifrey One – he believes the show will lose viewers. I believe, but haven’t confirmed, that Series 4 will air in the U.S. starting April 18th, with spinoff series The Sarah Jane Adventures debuting the week before, on April 11th at 8pm.
