Retro Review: Star Cops
by Doc on Jun.15, 2007, under Television
First of a new series of reviews of older programs, some you have probably not seen, and some may have never heard of. First up is the BBC series Star Cops. Produced in 1987 and set in the very near future, it dealt with the police force in charge of keeping law and order in the internationally controlled “High Frontier” of space stations, moonbases, and even Mars.
Third Stargate series being planned
by Doc on Jun.12, 2007, under Television
Could there be a third Stargate series? It’s definitely possible. Robert C. Cooper, one of the executive producers of the existing two series, is developing a third series, tentatively titled Stargate Universe, but cautions that it has not been picked up by anyone. The only details are that it is based on the established “mythology” of the universe, would be set in the present day, and would not involve any of the current characters.
Masters of Sci Fi to finally air
by Doc on Jun.11, 2007, under Television
It’s been a while since it was announced, but the anthology series Masters of Sci Fi will finally air in August on ABC. The article states that ABC ordered six episodes, but has only announced it will air four. Back when we last heard, ABC had order only 4 but the production company planned to produce six anyways and were looking to do 13. No idea now how many are actually in the can. What isn’t looking good is it is scheduled for the “death slot” of Saturdays at 10pm.
Jericho to get reprieve? Yes
by Doc on Jun.06, 2007, under Television
Seems the fans have spoken, and CBS has listened. It seems Jericho may not fall to the network axe as planned, and could possibly become a midseason replacement. Update: According to this article, CBS has said they WILL bring it back, ordering seven episodes for midseason. Update 6/7: It’s official. And “P.S. Please stop sending us nuts :)”
The 4400 starts 4th season June 17th on USA
by Doc on Jun.02, 2007, under Television
The hit series for the USA Network, The 4400, enters its 4th season starting Sunday, July 17th. A quick synopsis: THE 4400 follows 4,400 people who are abducted, taken away and then returned to planet Earth. After their return, many of them discover they have superpowers. As the fourth season begins on June 17, the plot follows the development of a drug called Promicin and its ability to give its users superpowers, if it doesn’t kill them first. Three different factions have emerged around the drug: pro, anti- and neutral.. Several web sites have been set up about the drug – check out www.promicininfo.com, www.promicinterror.com and www.promicinpower.com. If you need to catch up, the first three seasons are available on DVD, and The 4400 now has its own section in the Sci-Fi TV Store.
Galactica really ending after Season 4
by Doc on Jun.01, 2007, under Television
After some it is-it isn’t ending reports, a press release from producers David Eick and Ronald D. Moore confirms the end is near for Battlestar Galactica. In a “creative decision”, the two will end the run with the conclusion of Season 4, which is expected to start with a special two-hour episode in November, and then air the remaining episodes in early 2008. The SCI FI Channel has accepted the decision (although the article title implies it was SCI FI’s decision to end it).

The Sun reporting Doctor Who to end next year
by Doc on May.31, 2007, under Television
I really don’t believe The Sun in general, so take this knowing the source: They claim that Doctor Who will be cancelled after its 4th series, when Russell T. Davies and others of the production team resign as a group. I find it highly unlikely that the BBC would kill the show just because Davies leaves, which I vaguely recall he was already planning. More likely another production crew will be brought in, and its WAYYYY to early to comment on the possible results.
Clone Wars trailer released
by Doc on May.28, 2007, under Television
The trailer for the new CGI Clone Wars series has been released on the official Star Wars website. Looks like it fills in some more time between the previous series and Episode III.
Another Star Wars special: Star Wars Tech
by Doc on May.24, 2007, under Television
There is another special on Star Wars on the History Channel Monday right before Star Wars: The Legacy Revealed at 8pm: Star Wars Tech. “Take a look at the technology shown throughout the six Star Wars films and examine their viability through the eyes of cold hard science. Could a Death Star really be built? Can you build an army of clones? What is 3-D imaging, and where the can you get a Light Saber? Travel to a galaxy far, far away to answer all of these questions and more.” And be sure to see our friend Jeanne Cavelos, who will be appearing in the show. She wrote The Science of Star Wars as the Passing of the Techno-Mages trilogy of Babylon 5 books
