It’s something like “Hell Week” in Hollywood, as the networks clean up their schedules to make room for new programs, while they also decide what new programs to take. NBC has decided not to renew Revolution after two seasons. The show seemed to shed viewers this season, somewhat attributed to the “midwinter break” that has been becoming more common but can disrupt serials like Revolution.

J.J. Abrams, who was an executive producer, was hit with a double whammy when another Bad Robot show, mid-season supernatural drama Believe, was also chopped. On the plus side of the equation, the peacock network picked up supernatural detective drama Constantine from Warner Bros. Based on the DC comic of the same name, it follows former con man John Constantine (Matt Ryan, Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior), who becomes a detective fighting against dark forces.

On the ABC side, the network decided to keep strong fairy tale drama Once Upon A Time (and wondering what next season’s theme might be…) and the freshman show Resurrection, while saying goodbye to The Neighbors, it’s cult-following “aliens next door” comedy.

The Marvel franchise fans have let out a collective sigh of relief…ABC announced that they are picking up Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. for a second season, despite the Live+Same Day ratings not being terrific, but the show is a solid DVR performer.

To go along with it, ABC also picked up another Marvel series, Agent Carter, which follows Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell), who was introduced as Steve Rogers love interest in Captain America: The First Avenger but was left behind when Cap was frozen and reappeared in the future. Now in 1946 and peace has broken out, Carter goes to work for the Strategic Science Reserve and must balance doing administrative work and going on secret missions for Howard Stark (Tony’s father).

ABC is ordering Agent Carter straight to series, as it did have a form of pilot already: Marvel One-Shot: Agent Carter, a video short that was included with the Iron Man 3 Blu-ray release.

Starz has finally set the premiere date of the eagerly anticipated TV adaption of Diana Gabaldon’s bestselling book series being executive produced by Ron Moore (Helix, Battlestar Galactica). The 16-episode first season will premiere on August 9th at 9/8c.

The story follows Claire Randall (Super 8), a combat nurse in 1945, who while on holiday attempting to repair a strained relationship with her husband Frank (Tobias Menzies, Casino Royale), suddenly finds herself in 1743 Scotland and striking up a relationship with Scottish rebel Jamie (Sam Heughan, A Princess for Christmas).
