Store updates: Classic Doctor Who, Stargate, more
by Doc on Feb.15, 2009, under Video/DVD
I’ve done some housekeeping and updates to the Sci-Fi Storm Stores. Check out the stores for anything you need to fill out your collections – and in some cases, getting the new all-inclusive sets might be cheaper than getting a few of the individual items. Some new updates: The next classic episodes of Doctor Who come out May 5th and are The E-Space Trilogy (Full Circle/State of Decay/Warriors’ Gate) and “Battlefield” (and a reminder that the Key To Time episodes are out March 3rd); Season 1 of Earth: Final Conflict is finally being released, years after seasons 3-5; The DVD packs of the Star Trek have been replaced by the Remastered editions, and there is a new Complete Movie Collection that is quite reasonably priced; and the Stargate SG-1 DVD releases of The Ark Of Truth and Continuum get a combined Blu-Ray disc along with a DVD set March 3rd. And a reminder – buying ANYTHING from Amazon.com after following our links helps keep us here.

by Doc on Feb.05, 2009, under Video/DVD
I’m not sure when it is expected to air on the SCI FI Channel, but the pilot for the new Battlestar Galactica prequel series Caprica will debut on DVD April 21st in an extended, 93-minute form. The full series isn’t due to go into production until July, with the series debut in 2010. Read More for a press release.
Some Sci-Fi TV Store updates
by Doc on Dec.10, 2008, under Video/DVD
Just making some updates to the Sci-Fi TV Store as I find out about new items, if you are looking for some more holiday gifts (or some late ones): Serenity is getting a Blu-Ray release (although not until Dec. 30th); TekWar – The Series is already out on DVD – no sign of the TV movies though; A new Special Collector’s Edition of the classic Doctor Who mega-serial “Key to Time” is coming out next March; Those Lexx fans out there who perhaps don’t have all the “Season 1” TV movies can now get all 4 movies in one DVD pack; and Thunderbirds fans may want to know about the new lower priced 40th Anniversary Collectors Edition Mega Set.
The Dark Knight Blu-Ray Disc review
by Doc on Dec.06, 2008, under Video/DVD
The best of the Batman franchise movies so far (both in my opinion and by box office receipts) gets its Blu-Ray and DVD release this Tuesday…Read More for a review of both the movie and the Blu-Ray disc…and if you are interested in some web-based Batman diversions, check out The Dark Knight Widget and The Dark Knight Puzzle.
Doctor Who – The Complete Fourth Series DVD review
by Doc on Nov.30, 2008, under Video/DVD
This review is a bit late – Doctor Who – The Complete Fourth Series came out on DVD two weeks ago, but I just got my copy two days ago, and immediately jammed it into the player and started watching. Read More for the details, but as a whole the Fourth Series has thus far I believe produced the most interesting (quantity-wise) episodes to date, and with a running thread through several stories that lead up to the ultimate problem – the destruction of the universe!
Planet of the Apes Blu-Ray review
by Doc on Nov.04, 2008, under Video/DVD
For the 40th anniversary of the release of Planet of the Apes, 20th Century Fox re-released all the movies on Blu-Ray today, including the original with a slew of extras, and a box set of all five films. Here is a review of the Blu-Ray release of the original movie. See the Sci-Fi Movie Store for all the individual movies (and DVD releases as well).
Quark – The Complete Series on DVD
by Doc on Sep.16, 2008, under Television, Video/DVD
I found out about this late last night, but was too tired to post: The 70s SF spoof Quark came out on DVD two weeks ago. This is one of those shows I remember from my childhood, and naturally the memories were better than the reality by today’s standards, but it was still a humorous take on the state of SF at the time. Created by Buck Henry (Get Smart), it starred Richard Benjamin as the title character who is captain of a space trash ship. Other characters included Gene/Jean (Tim Thomerson, Trancers), a “transmute” – sort of a dual male/female personality; Betty and Betty (Doublemint twins Cyb and Trish Barnstable), clones who argue which one is the clone; Ficus (Richard Kelton, in his biggest on-screen role), a humanoid emotionless plant; and Otto Palindrome (Conrad Janis, Mork and Mindy), the station commander. Episodes would often start with two other commanders being given prestigious assignments, while Quark would inevitably “take out the trash” somewhere, yet still end up embroiled in some sort of galactic issue.

Update: Almost forgot – for those already looking for holiday gifts, Season 4 of Lost is released on December 9th on DVD and Blu-Ray.
Firefly Blu-Ray pre-orders now being taken
by Doc on May.29, 2008, under Video/DVD
Amazon has started taking pre-orders for the upcoming Firefly Blu-Ray Edition – even though a release date hasn’t been set, or details on features. The price point is a bit high as well, but it could come down before release when more information is known, and Amazon will guarantee that you will only pay the lowest price they offer it between now and the release date.
