AMC gives pilot order for Line of Sight
by Doc on Apr.25, 2013, under Television
ABC has given a pilot order for the SF drama Line of Sight from Blake Masters (Brotherhood), to be co-produced by Fox TV Studios and AMC Studios.
Line of Sight is the story of Lewis Bernt, a National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) investigator who survives a mysterious plane crash, bringing him on an emotionally disorienting quest to discover the accident’s cause. It isn’t clear what the science fiction element is, but I have a feeling this may play out a bit like Lost. Joel Stillerman, AMC’s executive VP of original programming, said, “Blake Masters has created a world and set of characters that defies the traditional boundaries of drama and sci-fi. It’s got great elements of both genres while also having that unique blend of a conspiracy thriller. It is genuinely unexpected and unconventional.”

Defiance stays strong with second episode; “Shooting the Shtako” clips
by Doc on Apr.23, 2013, under Television
The second episode of Defiance, “Down in the Ground Where the Dead Men Go”, stayed strong for Syfy, with 2.4 million total viewers and 1.11 million Adults 25-54 and 1.06 million Adults 18-49 for the initial showing, making it the #1 cable drama in both demos for the time period.
It lost only a bit after its premiere of 2.7 million total/1.3 million 18-49, but the show picked up in the DVR and repeat showings, rising up to 3.5 million total/1.77 million 18-49.
Next week expect Defiance and Warehouse 13 to feed off each other, as the latter returns for the second half of Season four in the 10/9c slot right after Defiance.
To celebrate, here are a couple of “Shooting the Shtako” clips (LOVE the name…), one for each episode. In the first, Grant Bowler discusses shooting the pilot with executive producer Kevin Murphy. Then in the second, Tony Curran (Datak Tarr) talks joins Murphy about the second episode.

It’s official – Futurama canceled again
by Doc on Apr.22, 2013, under Television
Comedy Central has decided not to pick up Futurama for more seasons, making the upcoming seventh season its last.
This is not the first time the show has been canceled, however. Fans will remember that the the show originally aired on Fox and was canceled after four seasons in 2003, but in 2007 re-appeared with several direct-to-DVD releases, which sold well enough to prompt Comedy Central to air the DVDs as episodes, and later to produce two more seasons of the show.
So who knows…perhaps the Planet Express and crew will crash land on yet another network someday…the final season starts June 19th.

by Doc on Apr.19, 2013, under Television
King Uther returns! This was rumored months ago when it was believed Merlin‘s Anthony Stewart Head was on the set of Warehouse 13, and fueled by a picture from star Eddie McClintock having dinner with him, fellow star Saul Rubinek, and Head’s fellow Buffy the Vampire Slayer alum James Marsters, but it’s been confirmed – Head will appear in the final three episodes of Season “4.5”, reportedly as a villain named Paracelsus.

Whoa there…Disney wants a new Star Wars film every year?
by Doc on Apr.17, 2013, under Movies
I know we’ve all been wanted new Star Wars – quality Star Wars at least – but is Disney getting a little too crazy? Reports abound that Disney is planning to release a new Star Wars feature every year. Starting with Episode VII in 2015, and alternating with standalone efforts at least until the third trilogy is done.
Is this too aggressive? Could this flood the market, so to speak, and give too much supply for the demand?
I guess it’s better than betting everything on a single feature, and it does seem to explain how they’ve redirected pretty much every single resource available at Lucasfilm at the features at the expense of other projects like Star Wars: The Clone Wars and the games…
