Oscar winner Arndt wrote Star Wars treatments; will write Episode VII
by Doc on Nov.08, 2012, under Movies
Michael Arndt, who won the Oscar for the screenplay for 2007’s Little Miss Sunshine and was nominated last year for Toy Story 3, wrote extensive treatments for the three proposed Star Wars sequels and will write the Episode VII screenplay that is now moving forward after Disney acquired Lucasfilm last week. The treatments were apparently written several months ago, well before the acquisition.
Arndt also wrote the upcoming Hunger Games: Catching Fire screenplay.
Disney hopes to release Episode VII in 2015.
Farscape and Stargate SG-1 alum Browder to join Arrow
by Doc on Nov.07, 2012, under Television
First it was Captain Jack Harkness. Now it’s Commander John Crichton and Lt. Colonel Cam Mitchell. Actor Ben Browder, who starred in Farscape and later the last couple seasons of Stargate SG-1, and more recently had guest appearances on Chuck and Doctor Who, will join the cast of Arrow as Ted Gaynor.
In the DC Comics universe, Gaynor was a bodyguard working for the Blackhawk Squadron in the Blackhawk comics. In Arrow, he will be John Diggle’s (Queen’s bodyguard) former commanding officer in Afghanistan, now working as a bodyguard with the “Blackhawk Squad Protection Group”, as an apparent nod to the comics.
Neil Gaiman will return to Doctor Who – as will the Cybermen
by Doc on Nov.07, 2012, under Television
Helmer Steven Moffat confirmed today that Neil Gaiman is indeed writing an episode of Doctor Who that will be part of the current season (it was earlier suggested that his episode may get pushed back for budgetary reasons), and that the episode will mark the return of the Cybermen. Not much else is known, but we do know that the episode will co-star Warwick Davis (Willow, the Leprechaun and Star Wars movies, and more recently Life’s Too Short), Tamzin Outhwaite (EastEnders) and Jason Watkins (Being Human).
Neil Gaiman won a Hugo award for last season’s episode, “The Doctor’s Wife”.
Update: The first day of filming was today!

Claudia Black and Nolan North guest on Haven
by Doc on Nov.02, 2012, under Television
Claudia Black (Stargate: SG1, Farscape) and Nolan North (Pretty Little Liars, Young Justice), stars of the critically-acclaimed Uncharted video game franchise, join fellow Uncharted co-star Emily Rose as guest stars on Syfy’s popular series Haven.
In Haven’s two part episode “Magic Hour,” airing Friday, November 2, and Friday, November 9 at 10PM (ET/PT), Black plays the role of Moira, a woman whose bitterness makes her capable of murder. In the episode, Audrey and Duke follow a lead to Colorado which results in a life-changing discovery, while Nathan and Tommy are forced to deal with the latest “trouble” on their own when they discover a murderer who has the ability to raise the dead.
In the Friday, December 6 at 10PM (ET/PT) episode, Audrey awakes one day only to discover that everyone in Haven, except the charismatic and witty Will (Nolan North), has fallen into a mysterious sleep with potentially deadly consequences.
In Uncharted, the three actors provide the voices of the action-adventure video games’ treasure hunter Nathan Drake (North) and his globe-trotting companions Elena Fischer (Rose) and Chloe Frazer (Black).

Lawrence to stay and direct remaining movies of The Hunger Games
by Doc on Nov.01, 2012, under Movies
Francis Lawrence, who directed I Am Legend and stepped in to direct the second film of The Hunger Games franchise, Catching Fire, after Gary Ross elected not to do the sequel, has officially signed to stay on and direct the two-film split of the final novel, Mockingjay, as well. This will hopefully give stability for the remaining films, although it remains to be seen how well Lawrence does with it.
