Syfy renews Lost Girl for third season
by Doc on Jun.05, 2012, under Television
Syfy announced today that it has renewed its hit series Lost Girl – the #1 cable drama among Adults 18-49 and Adults 25-54 in its time period – for a third season of 13 episodes, beginning January 2013.
During season two to-date, Lost Girl is averaging 895,000 Adults 18-49, 930,000 Adults 25-54 and 1.64 million total viewers, based on available Live +7 data.
On July 20, Lost Girl will move from Mondays at 10PM (ET/PT) to Fridays at 10PM.
Anna Silk (Being Erica) stars as seductress Bo, a Succubus (a powerful female entity in folklore) who feeds off sexual energy. Raised by human parents, Bo had no reason to believe she was anything other than the girl next door – until she “drained” her first boyfriend to death.
Bo discovers she is one of the Fae, creatures of legend who pass as humans while secretly feeding off them. Faced with choosing between an allegiance to the Dark or Light Fae clans, Bo takes the middle path between the human and Fae worlds while embarking on a mission to unlock the secrets of her origin.
Returning for season three are Kris Holden-Ried (Ben Hur, The Tudors, Underworld 4) as “Dyson”; Ksenia Solo (Life Unexpected; Black Swan) as “Kenzi”; Zoie Palmer (The Guard, Instant Star, XIII) as “Lauren”; Rick Howland (Billable Hours, Murdoch Mysteries) as “Trick” and K.C. Collins (Owning Mahowny, Doomstown) as “Hale.”
Joining the Lost Girl cast this season is Rachel Skarsten (The Vow; Flashpoint) in a recurring role as “Tamsin,” a thrill-seeking, sexy new Fae who ruffles many feathers. Emmanuelle Vaugier (Two and a Half Men, Covert Affairs) will reprise her role as “The Morrigan,” the leader of the Dark Fae.
Lost Girl was developed by Prodigy Pictures, in association with Shaw Media and Showcase. Executive producers are Jay Firestone, Emily Andras, Plato Fountidakis, and Paul Rapovski. James Thorpe is co-executive producer, Vanessa Piazza is co-producer and Wanda Chaffey is producer.
John Carter released on Blu-ray and DVD tomorrow
by Doc on Jun.04, 2012, under Movies
The movie may better be known for it’s disastrous box office precipitated by poor marketing and possibly costing Rich Ross his job, but I don’t think John Carter is a bad movie…I think it was a strong movie that kept true to the story, with some added twists. You can see my review of it here.
It still has a small chance at redemption though – tomorrow it is released on [sfs=1234]Blu-ray[/sfs] and [sfs=1235]DVD[/sfs]. It may not matter in the long run, but hopefully it will grow on people.

by Doc on Jun.04, 2012, under Television
STARZ announced today the upcoming season of the international hit series “Spartacus” will be the conclusion of the saga. With a visual style completely unique to television, the franchise has amassed both critical and popular acclaim to become the most successful on the network and one of the highest rated programs in all of cable television. More than six million weekly viewers watched last season, “Spartacus: Vengeance,” which has amassed more than 2.5 million Facebook fans. Globally, the series airs in 150 countries in more than 15 languages.
“The fans have been tremendously supportive of our show,” says creator and executive producer, Steven S. DeKnight. “We did not come to this decision lightly. It was an extremely difficult and emotional decision for my partners and I. Fox sets science fiction-heavy 2013-2014 movie slate
by Doc on May.31, 2012, under Movies
Twentieth Century Fox is looking to it’s science fiction past for it’s future, with a re-release and sequels.
Today the studio announced that after the success of the re-release of Titanic in 3D (which made $344 million worldwide), they would give the same 3D treatment to Independence Day, looking to release that July 3rd, 2013. Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters will be released on August 16th, and for the holidays a movie based on the TV series/live show Walking With Dinosaurs will be released December 20th.
Then, in 2014, Fox plans to take the Spring to Summer season starting with the Steven Spielberg directed Robopocalypse on April 25th; Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, the sequel to Rise of the Planet of the Apes, on May 23rd (Memorial Day); and the next currently-untitled X-Men movie, on July 18th.

John Carter repercussions? G.I. Joe: Retaliation delay reportedly due to poor testing
by Doc on May.30, 2012, under Movies
Could John Carter be causing other studios to turn a more critical eye on their big budget actioners? It seems that way, with Paramount pushing back the release of G.I. Joe: Retaliation by 9 months. The studio’s original claim was to make a 3D version, but not many bought that as the sole excuse. And now it seems that there is a lot more behind the delay.
Despite having started the marketing ball rolling months ago, and getting all the merchandise in place for the original June 29th release date, it appears that poor testing results on the film has them looking at it again, to the point they may want to completely rework the story.
One item appears to be the plan to kill off Duke Hauser at the beginning of the film. Hauser is played by Channing Tatum, who is suddenly seen as a big box office draw. Killing him off early would mean seriously limiting his draw for the film. Of course, delays and re-shoots are going to cost more – more money for Paramount to potentially lose if it doesn’t solve the problem – and as John Carter showed – let the public know they’ve solved the problem.
George Lucas to step away from Lucasfilm, go back to hobby movies
by Doc on May.30, 2012, under Movies
It seems that George Lucas is finally ready to give it up and go back to making films like he used to, like he’s been saying for years.
In an upcoming issue of British magazine Empire, TheForce.net reports that in an interview Lucas said, “I’m moving away from the company, I’m moving away from all my businesses, I’m finishing all my obligations and I’m going to retire to my garage with my saw and hammer and build hobby movies. I’ve always wanted to make movies that were more experimental in nature, and not have to worry about them showing in movie theatres.”
Still, we don’t know if he will really follow through this time. But at least there is hope that there won’t be any further revised versions of Star Wars…
