Marc Singer to appear in V

by on Nov.29, 2010, under Television

Marc Singer, who starred as Marc Donovan in the original V mini-series, will appear in the 10th and final episode of the second season of the rebooted V series on ABC. He is playing an all-new character by the name of Lars Tremont, a member of a top-secret global organization consisting of military and government officials who do not believe what the Visitors are saying.

Marc’s V co-star Jane Badler is already joining the show, playing Anna’s mother, named Diana – her character’s name in the original. She debuts in the season premiere, which airs January 4th. However, the two do not share and scenes, so if you are hoping for an on-screen reunion, watch the second season to get the ratings up and hope for a third season…

Ice Quake: Syfy’s holiday family disaster movie

by on Nov.29, 2010, under Television

Perhaps to lighten the mood after the sad news of last night/this morning, Syfy tweeted a press release for an upcoming TV movie – at least, I hope it was to lighten the mood – I at least got a chuckle: “CATACLYSMIC METHANE-FUELED EARTHQUAKES THREATEN EARTH’S SURVIVAL IN CHRISTMAS AND FAMILY THEMED SYFY SATURDAY ORIGINAL MOVIE ICE QUAKE” Nothing says family togetherness during the holidays like a good end-of-the-world TV movie…

But seriously, Ice Quake airs on Syfy on Saturday, December 11th, at 9PM ET. Brendan Fehr (CSI Miami) and Victor Garber (Alias) are featured, and also has Sharon Taylor and Ryan Grantham from Riese: Kingdom Falling.

The Hobbit filmed for 3D with RED EPIC digital camera

by on Nov.29, 2010, under Movies

Peter Jackson will be filming The Hobbit for 3D, and he will be doing it with the brand new RED EPIC camera, the successor to the successful RED One digital camera. The EPIC will have a “5k” resolution, which means the horizontal resolution will exceed 5,000 pixels (the EPIC is reportedly 5120×2700). By comparison, “1080p” for your standard HD TV is 1920×1080. This allows for better theater projection resolutions and also allows for limited digital zooming to reframe shots without re-shoots.

The size of the EPIC makes it far more practical for 3D filming, where they have to mount two cameras together to get the stereoscopic view. Dual mounted Panavision cameras are quite heavy and bulky.

Deathly Hallows, Part 2 will be “like a war film”

by on Nov.27, 2010, under Movies

Daniel Radcliffe (Harry Potter) recently spoke with Reuters about both parts of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. Regarding the slow pace of the first part, Radcliffe said, “In (Harry Potter) seven … people keep talking about ‘Oh it’s an action movie’ (but) … this is so sedate compared to what the next one is going to be like. The next film, because you’ve had all the plot set up already, you can just kind of enjoy the insanity of all the action.”

When asked about Rupert Grint describing Part 2 as a “war movie”, Radcliffe retorted, “They’ve all stolen my line! My pitch (for Deathly Hallows 1 and 2) was that it’s a road movie that turns into a heist movie that turns into a war film. I was saying it to Rupert and Emma (Watson) the other day. Damn it! The last movie is going to be really, really fast-paced and a load of action in it and it is like a war film. If we had done this book in one film, the stuff that would have got cut is most of this film. For me that is the most interesting part of the story, because it’s where the characters develop and change.”

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2 will be released on July 15th, 2011.

Stargate Universe mid-season preview: “Resurgence”

by on Nov.24, 2010, under Television

Is it mid-season already?

Rush, Colonel Young and the team debate chasing a distant energy signature into an area outside of the course mapped out by Destiny. Rush wants to investigate but it’s a day’s journey FTL to get there and Park, Eli, Dale and Brody question the wisdom of pursuing an energy signature so far off course from Destiny’s mission, not to mention the fact that the crew has had less than pleasant experiences with other alien life forms. What’s the source of this energy signature? Does the crew encounter more hostile aliens?

“Resurgence” airs Tuesday, November 30th, at 9PM ET/7PM CT.
