This is neat – Improv Everywhere is a NYC performance arts group that does improv around NYC, often filming it. Sometimes they recreate film scenes, and this time it’s the scene between Leia and Vader from Star Wars – on the NYC subway. Love the book, too…could use one of those.
Hobbit plods along waiting for green light

Just an update on the latest of the Hobbit saga – the production, not the story: Peter Jackson is reportedly meeting with actors this week in LA, with NY and the U.K. on the schedule, even though the production has not yet received a green light from studios WB and MGM due to MGM’s financial situation. WB is reportedly negotiating with MGM – which really means they are negotiating with creditors who probably see this as MGM’s only major franchise…

Norton will not Hulk up for Avengers

It appears that the big green guy’s alter ego will get a new face for the upcoming Avengers multi-superhero movie. Marvel has announced that Ed Norton will not return to the role of Bruce Banner that he himself took over from Eric Bana for The Incredible Hulk, with the producers opting to recast the role, alluding to wanting someone who might work better in an ensemble. Norton’s agent issued his own statement calling Marvel’s statement “offensive” and saying that Norton was “enthusiastic at the prospect of being a part of the ensemble cast.”
David Prowse not welcome at official Star Wars functions?

It seems that David Prowse may have stepped on George Lucas’ toes, and Lucas ain’t happy. It isn’t clear exactly what precipitated this, but the British actor who portrayed the figure of Darth Vader in the original films says on his official web site that he is not only not invited to appear at Celebration V in Orlando, but also isn’t welcome at future Lucasfilm-involved functions. Prowse has been known to have disputes with Lucas in the past, often stating that he assumed he would be providing the voice of Vader in addition to the form, and also about a leak regarding the character’s death and thus did not appear as Anakin in Return Of The Jedi, but there has been no official reason given other than Prowse having “‘burnt too many bridges.” I saw him last year, and he seemed reasonable personable, although I know others have different opinions.

As I suggest in my blog entry (Your Child Can Be Born on Vulcan), wouldn’t it be totally cool for your child to be born in Vulcan? If you’re nine months pregnant, and healthy with it, and have the funds, why not give it a try?
Then, whenever your child is asked where he or she is from, they’ll be able to say with perfect truth, Vulcan.
Emmy nominations are out

The Emmy nomination list is out, and here are some of the genre nods, in order of how many: Lost (12), The Big Bang Theory (5), True Blood (5), Flash Forward (3), The Prisoner (2), Stargate Universe (2), and Caprica, Chuck, Fringe, Heroes, V, Virtuality, and Warehouse 13 all receiving 1 each.
Kirk’s Wrath Of Khan uniform up for auction

Just think of putting this on and yelling, “KHAN!!!!!!!” Admiral Kirk’s set-worn jacket and shirt from Star Trek II: The Wrath Of Khan is up for auction at Heritage Auction Galleries. Also included are the trousers worn by Leon Russom, who wore the same jacket in Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country as Starfleet’s Commander-in-Chief. Opening bid: $10,000, with the estimated winning bid to be in excess of $20,000.
Warehouse 13 return down from last year, but good for SyFy

Warehouse 13 returned for its sophomore season last night (missed it? Fortunately my TiVo didn’t – I should have had it in the Storm calendar, but it will air several more times this week), but ratings were down 14% from its series debut last year. The news is not all bad, though – it was still SyFy’s most watched telecast this year, with 3 million viewers. P.S. Eureka returns this Friday at 9PM ET…
How Sulu got a name, and how McIntyre wrote Trek novels
