Shows wrapping up in uncertainty
by Doc on Mar.02, 2009, under Television
The economy makes everything uncertain – including show renewals. Two shows are wrapping up their second seasons, and their finales may be pretty final, but they want to leave room for more. Chuck intends to end with a “game-changer” to launch into a third season, but if that doesn’t happen, it will at least be the finale “we’ve been wanting to do for a while, and we’ve had this planned since the beginning of season one,” according to exec producer Josh Schwartz. On the more serious side, Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles will wrap things up but leave the door open for more.

Oscar has spoken
by Doc on Feb.23, 2009, under Awards
The Oscars are over (complete results here) – so, how did the SF&F world do this year? Well, in the mainline awards there weren’t too many nominations this year (and with Slumdog Millionaire in your category, forget winning), but as expected the late Heath Ledger won Best Supporting Actor for his portrayal of the Joker in The Dark Knight (which also won Sound Editing), The Curious Case of Benjamin Button took several awards, and WALL-E won best animated film. Oh – and Hugh Jackman was actually interesting as host/performer, made fun of himself and even at the end of a musical number said, “I’m Wolverine!”
