Galactica movie with Larson in the works?!?

by on Feb.22, 2009, under Movies

Could Universal be planning on a yet another version of Battlestar Galactica? Glen A. Larson had been trying to resurrect his version of the show (as had Richard Hatch with a competing version, among others) when Universal elected to go with Moore and Eick version now finishing up on the SCI FI Channel. But now The Hollywood Reporter says that original series producer Larson may take another version to the big screen. Other than it seems to be yet another reboot, there are little details though.

Sure…after I update my store…TrekMovie.com is breaking the story that the original Star Trek Series is getting a Blu-Ray release in April and May, with Season 1 due April 28th. This will include being able to see the episodes in their Remastered form or seamlessly branch with the original effects, plus extra goodies. List price is pretty expensive (US$118) but we’ll see how that plays out. On May 12th BD versions of the first six movies in a single pack, and a trilogy of the second, third and fourth movies will be released (no word on individual releases). Update: Links to pre-order are now in place and the store has been updated as well.

Next adaptation: Green Lantern?

by on Feb.18, 2009, under Movies

Could Green Lantern make the latest leap from paper to film? According to Michael Green, who is co-writing the adaptation for Warner Brothers, says that director Martin Campbell (GoldenEye) is attached and the studio appears to be moving forward. Could the extensive backstory could provide a lot of food for a franchise?

Dollhouse premiere fails to meet Fox’s expectations, but were they bad?

by on Feb.16, 2009, under Television

Joss Whedon’s new series Dollhouse, which premiered on Friday after the mid-season return of Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles in the Friday night “death slot” – failed to meet even Fox’s meager expectations, losing to Supernanny and only scoring 4.7 million 2.0/6 rating. Terminator didn’t fare well either, barely beating Howie Do It with a 3.7m 1.3/5). Hollywood Insider puts a different spin on it though – looking at the increase in viewers over Terminator and that it took in double the female viewers versus its lead-in and scored second among males 18-34. I actually found Dollhouse decent for its first episode – Alias-esque with a bit more SF and a ton of potential for star Eliza Dushku to show off her acting skills in a variety of roles.

Store updates: Classic Doctor Who, Stargate, more

by on Feb.15, 2009, under Video/DVD

I’ve done some housekeeping and updates to the Sci-Fi Storm Stores. Check out the stores for anything you need to fill out your collections – and in some cases, getting the new all-inclusive sets might be cheaper than getting a few of the individual items. Some new updates: The next classic episodes of Doctor Who come out May 5th and are The E-Space Trilogy (Full Circle/State of Decay/Warriors’ Gate) and “Battlefield” (and a reminder that the Key To Time episodes are out March 3rd); Season 1 of Earth: Final Conflict is finally being released, years after seasons 3-5; The DVD packs of the Star Trek have been replaced by the Remastered editions, and there is a new Complete Movie Collection that is quite reasonably priced; and the Stargate SG-1 DVD releases of The Ark Of Truth and Continuum get a combined Blu-Ray disc along with a DVD set March 3rd. And a reminder – buying ANYTHING from Amazon.com after following our links helps keep us here.
