by Doc on Feb.09, 2009, under Television
Eve Myles (Gwen Cooper), along with director Euros Lyn spoke with SCI FI Wire about the upcoming third series of Torchwood, and how the deaths of characters Owen and Tosh will affect the show. The third series, which will change formats to a 5 episode “miniseries” and is titled “Children of Earth”, has not had a airing date scheduled yet, but is expected to air this summer both in the UK and US.

Eoin Colfer to write new Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy book…
by Doc on Feb.09, 2009, under Books
zombiejellyfish writes “Just a bit of news I found out at NYCC – Douglas Adams’ widow has selected a new author to continue the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy. The new book, “And Another Thing…” will be written by Eoin Colfer (of Artemis Fowl) and is slated to release worldwide on the 30th anniversary of the publication of The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, which is October 2009. The book will bring back all of Adams’ characters (Arthur, Ford, Trillian, and Zapod), and may, or may not pick up where Mostly Harmless left off. There’s a forum set up to talk about the book at www.dontpanicforum.com“ This was announced a while back, but it sounds like the release is more concrete to coincide with the anniversary.

Snyder says no Watchmen sequel
by Doc on Feb.04, 2009, under Movies
As part of an interview with the New York Times says that although Warner Brothers could “go and hire some guy to make them a sequel…I don?t know that they would get any of those actors to do it, and I know that I wouldn?t have anything to do with it.” I’m not familiar with the source material myself, but I get a certain feeling there is a definite end to it…with studios looking for franchises lately, I’m surprised there wasn’t a built-in “out” for a sequel…
Land of the Lost trailer available
by Doc on Feb.02, 2009, under Movies
In case you missed it, TrailerAddict.com has the trailer for Land of the Lost. There is a fleeting glimpse of the Sleestak (classic style), Dinos reminiscent of Jurassic Park (including noise), and lots of things that look like they fell through the time portal – didn’t anyone notice the Golden Gate Bridge was missing?
Fox steps up for Dawn Treader
by Doc on Jan.29, 2009, under Movies
It looks like the Dawn Trader may yet sail. 20th Century Fox, which now has a partnership with Walden Media, is set to co-finance the third film in the Narnia franchise, Voyage of the Dawn Treader after Disney stepped away. Details of the financing arrangement are yet to be worked out but they still hope to release the film for the holiday season in 2010. I guess the Narnia exhibit at Walt Disney World will go away quickly.
Red Dwarf returns Easter weekend
by Doc on Jan.28, 2009, under Television
I first learned of plans to bring Red Dwarf back to the small screen for a few episodes and specials last October. The BBC has finally announced when it will happen – Easter weekend (April 11/12), nearly 10 years after the last episode aired. There will be a two-part story, “Red Dwarf: Back to Earth” which will then be followed by a “no holds barred” special – no sets, special effects or autocue (teleprompters to us Americans), and then a “making of” special. So if they go “Back To Earth”, will it be full of trash? Or did Wall*E steal that idea? No word on if it will see an outlet in the U.S. Update: I missed the fact that it will NOT air on the BBC itself, but on the UKTV digital channel Dave.

As a followup to this report, ABC has ordered a pilot for a new V series to be produced by Scott Peters (The 4400). Only a tiny bit more of the new plot has been revealed: that it will center on a female Homeland Security agent.
