Twilight tops box office with $70.6M

Sorry for the late news on this one…Twilight, for which I have not seen so much buzz for a new film in a long time, got results from the buzz with a heavy take at the box office this weekend, at an estimated $70.6M, followed by Quantum Of Solace at $27.4M and Disney’s Bolt at $27.0M.
Galactica preview now live

ABC goes to Mars, but pushes Daisies

ABC is deciding on back-half orders for its series, and Life On Mars will get more episodes, although it will be put on hiatus in order to catch up on production. But in the meantime Pushing Daisies, along with Eli Stone and Dirty Sexy Money, were told that no additional episodes would be ordered, “for now” (and likely won’t, but networks seem to hate the word, “canceled”…)

The BBC have dug into their archives and pulled up some typewritten documents with some written notes on them regarding the creation of a Science Fiction serial which eventually became Doctor Who, and given them the title “The Genesis of Doctor Who”. See the original character descriptions, why he is male, and what his secret was meant to be…
Robotech feature gets new writers, rewrite

Scribes Alfred Gough and Miles Millar (Smallville, Spider-Man 2, The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor) have been brought in to rewrite Warner Brothers big-screen Robotech adaptation. Lawrence Kasdan apparently wrote a previous draft, and no mention of it being live action or animated this time, although various reports are still calling it live-action – Tobey Maguire is only listed as a producer at this time.
Star Trek trailers now live

The teaser and the first full trailer for the upcoming Star Trek are now live at the Apple web site at a variety of resolutions, including some HD levels. Note that Quicktime 7 is required. Other issues aside, it LOOKS good. And apparently (from the teaser), the original Enterprise was a turboprop (look at the left nacelle towards the end)…

Communications Director writes in to let us know that Brent Spiner – best known for his role as Data on Star Trek: The Next Generation as well as other roles in movies such as Independence Day and many stage productions – has been added to the guest list for the upcoming Phoenix Comicon, which takes place January 23-25, 2009. He joins Marina Sirtis and Wil Wheaton as the TNG representatives in an already extensive guest list. Read More for the press release.
