by Doc on Oct.03, 2008, under General News
I know its not science fiction, but science fact is what helps drive the fiction. Recently the Discovery Channel aired a 6 hour series called When We Left The Earth – The NASA Missions, and now it is available on both DVD and Blu-Ray, and I’ve managed to take a look at the DVD version. Read More for a review, and you can even watch a clip here (Quicktime only).

by Doc on Oct.03, 2008, under Television
Stories of Kim Stanley Robinson’s Red Mars getting some sort of screen treatment have been around as long as this web site, but they’ve been quiet for a while, last rumored to be a SFC miniseries. Now, AMC is developing a series based on the novel, with Jonathan Hensleigh (Armageddon) as writer/executive producer. No mention on if or how the other novels (Green Mars and Blue Mars) might be incorporated.

An Alien Sings I Will Survive
by Doc on Oct.01, 2008, under General News
The Thunder Child writes “It is The Thunder Child never-ending attempt to bring science fiction entertainment to the masses. To that end, we watch a lot of YouTube videos, seeking out the gems… and we’ve found one… a one-eyed alien, sounding remarkably like Gloria Gaynor, sings I Will Survive… the first few stanzas, anyway….until…

And, albeit not science fiction, OTR lovers might like to listen to Three Skeleteon Key, one of the most famous episodes of Escape (and reprised on Suspense). It starred Vincent Price and is also affectionately known as… The One With the Rats.

by Doc on Sep.29, 2008, under Television
The SCI FI Channel has given the green light to a new investigative series, set to travel around the world in search of legandary and mythical artifacts. Read More for the full press release. It sounds like it is trying to capitalize on the renewed interest in Indiana Jones, and something more likely to be found on Discovery than SFC, but if done well it could be quite interesting, like the old In Search Of…
Stanton give more details on John Carter Of Mars
by Doc on Sep.25, 2008, under Movies
Director Andrew Stanton (Wall*E), who is also performing writing duties for the upcoming John Carter of Mars movie, gave more details to SCI FI Wire on the early stages of the film’s production. Apparently the look will differ from the classic bookcover imagery of the Burroughs series, and may diverge from the books themselves. “I’m going to do what I remember more than what they exactly do.” They are still mum on the format, but reports are that it may be a mix of live action and animation.
