Disney lines up 3D Tron sequel plus new Cars, National Treasure, Pirates
by Doc on Mar.03, 2008, under Movies
Dark Horizons is reporting that Disney is working up a bunch of potential blockbuster sequels for 2011 – among them is a long-awaited 3D Tron sequel, along with Cars 2, National Treasure 3, and Pirates of the Carribean 4. These aren’t terribly surprising titles, although cramming all 4 in a single year from one studio could be much. It’s probably too early for definitive plots yet while writers get back to work, but there are probably lingering questions on how the Pirates cast will be handled – if all of them will come back, or focus on a subset.
Stargate: The Ark of Truth Review
by Doc on Mar.02, 2008, under General News
Stargate SG-1 concluded its 10th and final season with a lot of unanswered questions: The Ori were still a threat, and what happened with the “anti-Ori” weapon sent to their galaxy was unknown, and what happened to Adria, the Orici (Human-Ori hybrid, and daughter to Vala), who was attempting to ascend? And what of Merlin’s weapon? We finally get those answers in Stargate: The Ark of Truth, which comes to DVD on March 11th. Read More for a review.

Retro Review: Blake’s 7, Series 3
by Doc on Mar.01, 2008, under Television
It’s been a while since I reviewed the first two series of Blake’s 7, but I’ve finally picked up where I left off and watched Series 3, which represents a departure – in more than one way – from the first two series, including the loss of the title character…alas, I still await a formal DVD release for Region 1…my piles of VHS tapes take too much room.

Several new classic Doctor Who episodes have also been added to the release list: “Planet of Evil”, March 4th (I may have missed this previously); “The Time Warrior” and “Timelash”, April 1st; and “The Silurians”, “The Sea Devils” and “The Warriors Of The Deep”, all on June 3rd. Those last three can also be had in a single box set called “Beneath The Surface”, also on June 3rd.

Get Smart gets direct to DVD sequel already
by Doc on Feb.28, 2008, under Movies
I hereby coin the term “DVDequel” (I did a Google search with no hits). Get Smart, starring Steve Carell (40 Year Old Virgin) and Anne Hathaway (Ella Enchanted) and opening June 20th, will get a “sequel” of sorts that will go direct to DVD – and come out around the same time. Get Smart’s Bruce and Lloyd Out of Control will focus on the minor characters of Bruce (Masi Oka, Heroes) and Lloyd (Nate Torrence, Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip). Carell does not appear in it, nor is it directed by Get Smart‘s director, Peter Segal. Warner Brothers is apparently experimenting with a new idea, which will allow you to see a movie in a theater and then get a quick fix for more at home.
Dinosaurs Return to Life? Airing March 1 and 2
by Doc on Feb.26, 2008, under Television
Anonymous Coward writes “Dinosaurs: Return to Life? is airing again Discovery Channel Saturday March 1 at 9 pm and Sunday March 2 at 11 am.” Alert for those who missed it the first time…
Something about some awards show last night…
by Doc on Feb.25, 2008, under Movies
The Oscars apparently didn’t garner as good ratings as it has in the past, and some said it was due to the dark, artsy nature of most of the leading contenders and no super-blockbuster films, or the lingering effects of the writers strike. Anyways, a few genre (or near-genre) films did get some technical nods. Disney/Pixar’s Ratatouille (DVD/Blu-Ray. available now) scored a second Best Animated Feature Oscar for Brad Bird, who previously scored with 2004’s The Incredibles, and The Golden Compass (DVD/Blu-Ray, April 29th) won for Visual Effects.
