Braugher says Andromeda Strain reworked
by Doc on Nov.14, 2007, under Movies
Andre Braugher (Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer), who plays a military man in the upcoming updated Andromeda Strain, discussed how the movie has been updated with SCI FI Wire. Obviously the setting has been updated to the present day, but he calls the book “anticlimactic”, and that the new version is a “retelling of the story, with the same premise, but an entirely different retelling.” I’m a bit concerned about the comment, “There are elements of that film Sphere [which was also based on a Crichton book], … in terms of the involvement of another power in the creation of the virus.” Did there need to be some nefarious higher power involved?

Bruce Greenwood is Trek‘s Pike
by Doc on Nov.09, 2007, under General News
While Josh Lucas may have been the rumored choice, Captain Christopher Pike, the captain of the Enterprise prior to James T. Kirk (and labeled as the first captain in the article, but I don’t know if they mean in terms of television production or Trek canon), will be played by Bruce Greenwood (I, Robot).

So, J.J. Abrams pitches an idea to Paramount brass – let’s do the original Star Trek crew, but when they are younger, before they all end up on the Enterprise. What’s the worst that could happen? Perhaps this. A humorous video on the pitch to redo Star Trek as a college life movie…

First seen with the 1973 story “The Time Warrior”, the bulbous warriors will have to face the Doctor, Jones, and Donna Noble (Catherine Tate, having taking the permanent companion role from Agyeman). Playing the head of the Sontarans is Christopher Ryan (Young Ones).

Whedon and Dushku return to Fox, TV with Dollhouse
by Doc on Nov.01, 2007, under Television
Joss Whedon is teaming up again with actress Eliza Dushku (Faith from Buffy/Angel) for a new series to be produced by Fox TV called Dollhouse. It centers around Echo (Dushku), who is one of several secret agents programmed with a personality, abilities, memories – everything they need for their mission. After the mission – everything is erased (leaving them with no personality or memories) and they return to the “Dollhouse”, where they await their next programming. Echo starts to develop some self awareness, which impacts her ability to perform her missions. Currently Fox has ordered 7 episodes, and production could begin as early as Spring.
Heroes: Origins shelved indefinitely
by Doc on Nov.01, 2007, under Television
NBC has chosen to put Heroes: Origins – the short spinoff series that would fill the hole during the normal season’s hiatus – on hold indefinitely…and the impending writer’s strike is one of the factors in the decision. Also mentioned was losing several key staff members, the critics issues with this season’s storyline, and disappointing ratings so far.
