by on Sep.19, 2007, under General News

The Producer writes “The television crew from Sci Fi Central have just returned from an unprecedented tour of Lucasfilm and Skywalker Ranch where we have filmed segments for our new TV series.

We have filmed Star Wars actress Bonnie Piesse who hosts our show, plus DJ interviews Skywalker Sound?s Matthew Wood (the voice of General Grievous) and Producer Rick McCallum.

We had a fantastic 45 minute talk with Rick in which he talks about everything from his early career as a Producer to the prospect of George?s son Jett Lucas coming up with his own story ideas and whether Darth Vader may or may not be in the television series.”

No Connery in Indy 4 – and it’s a good thing

by on Sep.18, 2007, under Movies

George Lucas, as part of an interview for TV Guide, mentions that Sean Connery will not return as Indiana Jones father in the new movie – and it’s a good thing. “No, in the end, it turned out better. In the beginning, he was just in a little bit of it, and I think with the strength of Sean Connery, people would’ve wanted him to go all the way through the whole thing, and the story really didn’t work that way. And so I think there would’ve been some disappointment that [his character] dropped out partway through the movie.” Instead, the part was transferred to a new character, which I presume is the role to be played by Jim Broadbent (The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe).

The Dark Crystal 25th Anniversary Soundtrack review

by on Sep.18, 2007, under Audio

The Dark Crystal – 25th Anniversary Edition came out last month on DVD. Haven’t gotten a copy yet, but I need to – after having listened to the The Dark Crystal – 25th Anniversary Original Soundtrack and realizing how familiar the music was for a film I haven’t seen in almost a quarter century. Read More for a brief review.

Jekyll on DVD this week

by on Sep.15, 2007, under General News

I just learned that the BBC series Jekyll, written and created by Steven Moffat (who wrote several of the most popular – and scary – episodes of the new Doctor Who) and which recently aired in the U.S. on BBC America, will be released on Region 1 DVD on Tuesday, September 18th. If you are unaware of the show, it is a modern take on Robert Louis Stevenson’s classic “Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde”. Dr. Tom Jackman has a problem – he blacks out, and finds himself in other places, having done horrible things. He comes to an uneasy truce with his alter ego, “sharing” time with it, and trying to keep his family a secret from it. When his alter ego finds out about his family, Tom finds out that its only the beginning…and that they story of Dr. Jekyll may not have been fiction.

I can’t speak highly enough of James Nesbitt in this show. He manages to pull off not only the completely different personalities, but actually give the personalities completely different looks…but I kept picturing him breaking through a door and going “Here’s Johnny!” from The Shining

New Indy title is Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull

by on Sep.10, 2007, under Movies

If you weren’t lulled into sleep by Britney Spears’ performance, you might have caught Shia LeBeouf on the MTV Video Music Awards last night. Shia, who is co-starring in the upcoming fourth Indiana Jones movie, let slip the title of the new movie: Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. It remains to be seen if Lucasfilm will confirm it. Update: Thanks to seelo for pointing out that the official web site has the same title, releasing the name yesterday (but with less fanfare…)

Morgan quits Bionic Woman

by on Sep.08, 2007, under Television

Writer/Producer Glen Morgan (The X-Files, Space: Above and Beyond), who was one of the “show running” producers of the upcoming Bionic Woman, has quit the show over “creative differences”. David Eick (Battlestar Galactica) will remain and take over day-to-day operations. There were apparently rumors of production shutting down (I didn’t hear them), but NBC denies that, but an insider says it may “take a break” – which is code words for “really, really big problems”…Update 9/10: David Eick is downplaying the situation, calling it “business as usual”.
