“RECON 2020” unleashed in the United States!

Montreal, Canada – October 20, 2006

Movie Seals Productions is proud to announce that Maverick Entertainment Group has acquired the United States distribution rights to its sci-fi / action movie “Recon 2020: The Caprini Massacre” by director Christian Viel (“Evil Breed: The Legend of Samhain”, “Deaden”). Since its premiere at the Fantasia Film Festival, this epic movie started on a winning path that includes a Best Sci-Fi / Action movie award at the Sci-Fi London Film Festival in 2005 and a Best Sci-Fi movie award at the Wreck – Beach International Film festival in August 2006.

The film follows a group of soldiers on a recon mission on a desolate planet in a remote system:

In the year 2020, the Earth has become a barren rock from radioactive devastation. Protected by the Galactic Marine Infantry, (GMI), the remaining human race, struggling for survival on a distant star, is terrorized by the evil Ma’har alien race. While on a reconnaissance mission in the Caprini system, Sergeant Sharp and his GMI soldiers discover the Ma’hars hidden laboratory where they’ve been creating a horrific breed of terrorists. The aliens’ new bio-weapons are reproductions of mankind’s mythical creatures – zombies, werewolves, vampires!

The street date for the USA release of ‘Recon 2020: The Caprini Massacre’? is December 5 , 2006.

The film is part of the Maverick Platinum collection.

A sequel, “Recon 2022: The Mezzo Incident” is currently in post-production.

20th Century Fox and Universal Pictures, which had originally ponied up the cash to turn Microsoft’s Halo game franchise into a big budget movie with executive producers Peter Jackson and Fran Walsh, have reportedly backed out, leaving the film in doubt. Clashes on compensation to the game developers and the producers were reportedly at issue, along with a skyrocketing budget. They are currently looking for another studio and financing.

70s show Ark II released on DVD Nov. 7th

by on Oct.14, 2006, under General News

I’m so going back to my childhood. For those that remember, there was a short-lived (but oft-repeated) Saturday morning SF show called Ark II. After the Earth suffers some devastating event, scientists look to help try and restore it. Three young travellers (and a chimp) roll around in a cool RV trying to help. I don’t remember much of the plots or the quality, but I’ve already ordered the DVD release. Still waiting on Space Academy and Jason of Star Command, which may come out early next year. Come on and join me back in the 70s…what other shows would you like to see again? P.S. I’ve also added Star Trek: The Animated Series to the Sci-Fi TV Store – it comes out November 21st.

by on Oct.11, 2006, under Television

Much like Babylon 5‘s little revival (which we should see next year), it appears that Stargate SG-1 will get the DVD treatment. MGM has reportedly agreed to pony up some money and given the green light two two films, likely to be direct-to-DVD.

Starships to scale

by on Oct.07, 2006, under General News

An interesting site I found out about: Starship Dimensions. It takes pictures of various spaceships and shows them to scale so you can see the differences. Ships from various TV series, movies, and novels are depicted. Somehow I imagined Star Destroyers as being bigger.
