David Tennant named 10th Doctor

Rapidly running out of regenerations, the Doctor better start figuring out how to get around it. The BBC has named the 10th actor to play Doctor Who as David Tennant, who was the odds-on favorite (I like the British bookmakers – you can bet on anything – I remember seeing a line on how many prison escape attempts would occur that day). Tennant is currently starring in Casanova, which was also written by current Who writer/exec Russell T. Davies.
Enterprise to flee to Canada?

Despite Paramount’s previous statement, TrekToday says that Enterprise production could move to Canada in a co-production deal which also involves fan group TrekUnited, and report that Paramount may actually be considering the deal. Seems highly unlikely, but the fans are determined…Updated 4/18: The plug has been pulled. With all the questions regarding TrekUnited’s openness and the constant rebuffs from Paramount, the efforts have ended.
SCI FI announces new series

The SCI FI Channel has announced new series for 2006-2007, which have some pretty mainstream names associated with them. The list doesn’t say which are full series and which are limited/mini-series, but it includes an update Time Tunnel; Heroes Anonymous, a comic book adaptation; Urbane Arcana, based on the Worlds of Wonder role-playing game; and 3:52, a show about what happens after 2 billion people simply disappear.
Enterprise will not be saved

The official Star Trek site has posted a letter to Tim Brazeal, founder and campaign leader for SaveEnterprise.com. It says that Paramount and the producers are “flattered and impressed” at the support and ability to raise funds to produce another season of Enterprise, but the decision to cancel the show is “final.” I’m sure there was also some legal issues with the acceptance of the money.
BBC apologizes to Eccleston

The BBC is apparently apologizing for several things said to the press in the announcement that Christopher Eccleston was leaving Doctor Who after one season. Apparently Eccleston had only planned to for season, and the Beeb knew it but had agreed not to reveal that fact, which it ended up doing – without talking to him first.
Star Wars fans lining up…at wrong theater?

Reports are circulating the major news outlets that eager Star Wars fans have already begun lining up outside the famous Grauman’s Chinese Theater – but the studio says the movie will not premiere there, but at the ArcLight down the street. However, the ArcLight deal is not finalized, and fans have pointed out Fox has said the the same thing before.
Future features: bittorrent tracker?

As I come up with ideas to improve the site, (and yes, I will get back to work at the software at some point), one idea seems pretty cool, but I’m not sure of how useful it would be. I’m in love with BitTorrent – the protocol, not the fact that I can download pretty much anything, legal or not. This may be more interesting to content providers for trailers, etc., but is there interest in a BitTorrent tracker for legitimate, legal downloads of SF media?

Amazon.com has started to take pre-orders for “But in Purple, I’m Stunning… : The Babylon 5 Quote Book”, which is a collection of favorite quotes from the series and the stories that go with them, plus the full script to the finale “Sleeping in Light” and a complete chronology for the series, including printed materials.
