Stargate SG-1 Season 8 starts tonight
by Doc on Jul.09, 2004, under Television
Wow, I can’t believe I haven’t posted in a week. Just a reminder, The eighth season of Stargate SG-1 kicks off tonight at 9PM EDT with the two-hour episode “New Order”, where things start to change for or favorite team. Also, if you’ve missed the special From Stargate to Atlantis: A SCI FI Lowdown, that is repeated at 8PM. Stargate Atlantis premieres next Friday (7/16) at 9PM, with a repeat of “New Order” preceeding it at 7PM, since they are related…

James Doohan, who played Scotty on the original Star Trek, is suffering from Alzheimer’s Syndrome, according to his wife, Wendy. Jimmy already announced his farewell convention in August, but this is something of a shock. It is already known that he had Parkinsons and diabetes.
Doctor Who but no Daleks?
by Doc on Jul.02, 2004, under Television
As previously mentioned, the BBC did not own the rights to Doctor’s most famous enemies, the Daleks – they belonged to writer Terry Nation, and with his death, his estate. The BBC had entered negotiations to bring them back, but they have apparently failed to agree to terms.

Jeremiah apparently cancelled; free interactive comic
by Doc on Jun.29, 2004, under Television
I haven’t heard anything official from Showtime, but they haven’t said anything, and there is still half of season two to air (and I think it is being billed as Season 3), but in this SCIFI Wire article, it mentions that Jeremiah has been cancelled. The article is about an interactive comic being developed by comic book writer Andrew Foley to pick up where the Showtime series left off, and will be offered free on JeremiahPortal.com. The article does quote Foley on how Platinum chief Scott Mitchell Rosenberg has been working hard to keep Jeremiah alive, with a prequel film in development and a role-playing game, and the possibility of pickup by the SCI FI Channel – although SFW was quick to point out that they have made no announcements. Showtime leaves my satellite box as soon as I’ve seen “Season 3”.
Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince next book title
by Doc on Jun.29, 2004, under General News
CNN is reporting the confirmed new title of the sixth Harry Potter book, Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince, shutting down some serious and not-so-serious rumors and hoaxes. Various fan sites were running around recently with “Pillar or Storge” (a reference to familial love), but J.K. Rowling has finally let the wizard out of the bag. It was also considered the title for the second book at one point, and Rowling also writes “The HBP is neither Harry nor Voldemort.”

Land of the Lost 1st season on DVD
by Doc on Jun.26, 2004, under General News
In another unforgivable omission, I’ve managed to miss the fact that the complete first season of the original Land of the Lost (hear me now – that thing called Land of the Lost in the early 90s DID NOT EXIST!) is coming out next Tuesday! This includes all seventeen episodes, including those written by SF names like Larry Niven, David Gerrold, D.C. Fontana, and Walter Koenig, and includes commentary tracks from them and the cast, plus interviews and more! I actually found out about this on the larryniven-l mailing list from fiziko over at Bureau 42.

Tor Books has put up an official web site for the recently released 4th Ringworld novel, Ringworld’s Children. I will be putting up a review as soon as I’ve finished my second reading for the Encyclopedia of Known Space.
