Help Save Dark Angel
by Doc on Jun.04, 2002, under Television
Miss T writes “As you will probably be aware already FOX have officially cancelled James Cameron’s Dark Angel, after only 2 series.
There are many fans of the show currently emailling, writing letters and signing petitions directed to FOX to renew the show for at least one further season or to produce a TV film to finish off the story.
The below petition at the time of writing this email, currently stands at 18,684.

Help save one of the best new sci-fi shows around at the moment, by adding your name to the petition.”

Thunderbirds on TechTV!
by Doc on Jun.01, 2002, under Television
Steve Baker writes “Not content with releasing the entire 36 episodes of the 1965
British puppet series “Thunderbirds” on DVD – it appears that
Carlton have managed to get TechTV to broadcast them too.
For a kiddies program, Thunderbirds can be suprisingly good
SciFi. If you have no idea what I’m babbling about – then you
DEFINITELY need to watch out for this one.”

by Doc on May.31, 2002, under Television
I’ve included a new promotion on the left side of the screen for Showtime’s new series Odyssey 5. Click on the promo and enter to win a trip to see a space shuttle launch. Alas, the flash ad doesn’t seem to work with some browsers (notable Netscape 6.X and up). If you don’t see it (or have Javascript disabled), scroll down and you should see the plain vanilla version to click on…
Review: Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones
by Doc on May.30, 2002, under Movies
Without anything earth-shattering news-wise to report, I’ll add another review: this past weekend I caught Star Wars Episode II in digital. In brief – it wasn’t quite as bad as the critics made it out to be, but there were some moments that just didn’t work, like the scene someone likened to The Sound of Music. Read More for details. Be forewarned of possible spoilers.
Review: Niven/Pournelle’s The Mote in God’s Eye and The Gripping Hand
by Doc on May.24, 2002, under Books
I just recently read both The Mote in God’s Eye, followed by the sequel The Gripping Hand, written some 18 years later. For my first foray into a non-Known Space Niven work, I was very impressed with the former, a little less so with the latter. Read More for more details – but beware of spoilers.
