Tomorrowland trailer #3 – more action!

by on Apr.21, 2015, under Movies

This time we get to see glimpses of the plot – it seems that some group (Universal executives? 🙂 ) don’t want Britt Robertson and George Clooney to escape to Tomorrowland, which looks even more like the 50s/60s Disney-esque future city we thought we’d have by now…with a touch of steampunk to get between the worlds…

From Disney comes two-time Oscar® winner Brad Bird’s “Tomorrowland,” a riveting mystery adventure starring Academy Award® winner George Clooney. Bound by a shared destiny, former boy-genius Frank (Clooney), jaded by disillusionment, and Casey (Britt Robertson), a bright, optimistic teen bursting with scientific curiosity, embark on a danger-filled mission to unearth the secrets of an enigmatic place somewhere in time and space known only as “Tomorrowland.” What they must do there changes the world—and them—forever.

Featuring a screenplay by “Lost” writer and co-creator Damon Lindelof and Brad Bird, from a story by Lindelof & Bird & Jeff Jensen, “Tomorrowland” promises to take audiences on a thrill ride of nonstop adventures through new dimensions that have only been dreamed of.

The film also stars Hugh Laurie as brilliant scientist David Nix, Raffey Cassidy, Tim McGraw, Judy Greer, Kathryn Hahn, Keegan-Michael Key and Thomas Robinson.

“Tomorrowland” is produced by Damon Lindelof, Brad Bird and Jeffrey Chernov and directed by Brad Bird, with John Walker, Brigham Taylor, Jeff Jensen and Bernard Bellew serving as executive producers.

Some Star Wars: Rogue One details

by on Apr.19, 2015, under Movies

On the last day of Star Wars Celebration, Star Wars: Rogue One director Gareth Edwards joined Lucasfilm’s Kathleen Kennedy, Kiri Hart, and Pablo Hidalgo in a panel to discuss the “interstitial” Star Wars movies which are taking place outside the main saga stories and will be released in the years in between the saga releases. Kennedy announced that they are calling these movies the Star Wars Anthology Series.

Previous thoughts on Rogue One following the adventures of the Rebels’ Rogue Squadron were squashed as Edwards gave the basic premise, which takes place between Episode III and IV, and will “revolve around a rogue band of resistance fighters who unite for a daring mission to steal the Death Star plans and bring new hope to the galaxy.” Possibly the ones who got the plans to Princess Leia?

A sizzle real was shown (and well received from reports), but is not available online yet. The film will star Oscar winner Felicity Jones (The Theory of Everything), but other cast members still have not been named.

Star Wars Rebels Season Two trailer – returning characters and actors

by on Apr.19, 2015, under Television

At Star Wars Celebration in Anaheim this weekend (no, I’m not there…really wish I was…) they released a trailer for the upcoming Season 2 of Star Wars Rebels – and in it we can see some familiar faces returning…of course Ahsoka is back from Star Wars: The Clone Wars after her appearance at the end of Season 1 (and still voiced by our Jedi friend Ashley Eckstein), but we also see the return of Rex, Anakin’s clone trooper captain, voiced by Dee Bradley Baker (who also has done a few voices in Rebels).

We do also see the arrival of Darth Vader in the storyline after his cameo appearance in the special first episode, and it appears he will be voiced by James Earl Jones.

And one other thing I recently learned – Sam Witwer (Being Human), who voiced Darth Maul in The Clone Wars, will return as well – but this time as Emperor Palpatine/Darth Sidious.

Wonder Woman changes directors

by on Apr.16, 2015, under Movies

It appears there was some unrest over at Warner Bros. production of Wonder Woman, with director Michelle MacLaren’s sudden departure over what is described as “creative differences” on Monday (rumors from sexism to MacLaren wanting to include a tiger sidekick), but it appears that the production won’t remain rudderless long – Monster director Patty Jenkins is taking over.

Wonder Woman has had a long history of troubles…NBC shot down a 2011 TV series after the pilot starring Adrianne Palicki was received poorly. The David E. Kelley script had even been rejected earlier that year by the network but was picked back up when Bob Greenblatt took over. And back in 2007, Joss Whedon tried to take the superhero to the big screen, but couldn’t agree with Warner Bros. or Joel Silver’s Silver Pictures over the setting of the script.

Gal Gadot is still attached to star as the Amazonian hero, and it is still scheduled for a 2017 release.

Disney XD takes on David Tennant’s Doctor Who

by on Apr.16, 2015, under Television

Disney XD is taking aim at SF fandom, and Doctor Who is the ammo of choice…the channel announced yesterday that it has picked up Series 2-4 of the rebooted BBC show featuring one of the most popular Doctors, David Tennant.

The show will start with a special airing of “New Earth” on May 9th, and then run in a daily strip from June 13th through the 20th. No word when more episodes will air yet. It also isn’t clear yet if the Christmas specials (includng Tennant’s debut in “The Christmas Invasion”, which is obviously being skipped over to start with) or the series of specials that followed the 4th series that led to Tennant’s departure, are part of the deal. Time, as always, will tell.

Ryan Gosling to star in followup to Blade Runner

by on Apr.16, 2015, under Movies

It has been a few years since we had news on the reported new Blade Runner in development, aside from some denials that Harrison Ford would return as Decker. But today it was announced that Ryan Gosling would star in what is now definitely a sequel to the Ridley Scott classic – and we hear that Harrison Ford will indeed return.

Hampton Fancher, who co-wrote the original, and Michael Green (Green Lantern) have written the screenplay, which will be helmed by Prisoners director Denis Villeneuve. Plot details are being kept under wraps, other than it will take place several decades after the original. Shooting is expected to begin in Summer 2016.
