The attention to detail in Falling Skies
by Doc on Aug.08, 2011, under Television
I’ve mentioned a bit about the finer details shown in the pilot episode of Falling Skies, especially for the location, in our First Look article. After all, when they are portraying the area you live in and you are generally a nitpicker (although I don’t let that spoil my enjoyment), you notice things.
The show is shot in the Toronto area, and has provided an architectural and landscape match for the areas of Acton, Concord and Littleton in Massachusetts. However I noticed that they appeared to avoid signage in the area. I wasn’t sure why, but different locations do tend to have uniqueness to their signs.

Falling Skies renewed for 10-episode second season
by Doc on Jul.07, 2011, under Television
It looks like TNT liked the returns on the first few episodes of Falling Skies – TNT has ordered a second season of the hit post-invasion show starring Noah Wyle from Dreamworks Television and Steven Spielberg, which will air in the summer of 2012. The premiere on June 19th drew a Live+7 viewership of 8 million, making it the most successful cable launch so far in 2011, and through three episodes as averaged more than 6.4 million blended (live and time shifted) viewers.
“Falling Skies is a true standout series, from its ambitious storytelling, high-profile cast and production team to its phenomenal success when it comes to international and time-shifted viewing,” said Michael Wright, executive vice president, head of programming for TNT, TBS and Turner Classic Movies (TCM). “We’re reaching new audiences with Falling Skies and look forward to seeing where this fascinating and exciting series takes us next.”

Falling Skies rockets off to best-of-year start
by Doc on Jun.20, 2011, under Television
TNT’s debut of Falling Skies is off to a great start, pulling in 5.9 million viewers overall for its debut last night – the best cable premiere so far this year, and the best since TNT’s Rizzoli & Isles debuted last summer to 7.6 million pairs of eyes. Whether it keeps those viewers or not – a common problem among recent genre dramas – will be seen starting next week when it moves to its normal 10PM Eastern/Central time slot. I think it can…

Falling Skies already gearing up for second season?
by Doc on May.11, 2011, under Television
We are still more than a month away from the debut of Falling Skies, which premieres June 19th on TNT, but it appears that they may be getting things in line for a second season already. Because the production is out of the normal cycle most if not all of the original writing staff is already tied up, but they are going to get new writers set so that work can begin as soon as TNT makes the go/no-go decision – which may come right after the premiere, if not before – TNT reportedly likes the series a lot, and having seen the first couple episodes I can see why. They definitely do not want the same gap in production time that took place for the original series, though – it will be about 17 months from pickup to debut.
To help get things moving, Remi Aubuchon (Caprica) has been hired as executive producer and show runner.
A first look at Falling Skies
by Doc on May.02, 2011, under Television
As I mentioned several days ago, I received an interesting package. This was the preview press kit for the upcoming TNT series Falling Skies, from DreamWorks and Steven Spielberg, and stars Noah Wyle (ER, The Librarian).

Falling Skies – now this is a press kit
by Doc on Apr.27, 2011, under Television
You’ll hear more about Falling Skies by the end of the weekend, but a very interesting package arrived today. Inside was a satchel…and inside that was a newspaper – well, the front page of the “Boston News”, proclaiming that “WE ARE NOT ALONE!” and that massive ships have appeared over major cities. Sounds like the beginning of many movies – but this is just the very beginning for the upcoming Falling Skies series on TNT, from DreamWorks Television and executive producer Steven Spielberg. Also inside was a DVD case that looks like what I’d expect from an “ultimate platinum collector’s edition” DVD release with the pilot and another episode, and even a guide to the characters.
On the satchel was also a placard, which on the back reads, “If you had to start over, what would you bring?”
Falling Skies will air over 8 weeks, starting with the two-hour premiere on June 19th at 9PM ET/PT.
Expect some insight into the series soon…but no spoilers. Update: You can now read our First Look at Falling Skies article.
