Torchwood‘s (and Doctor Who‘s) own Captain Jack will be back on TV – in the U.S. no less – as EW Inside TV reports actor John Barrowman has joined the cast of the CW’s Arrow, based on the DC Comics superhero Green Arrow, in a recurring role.
Although the name of the role isn’t mentioned, he is described as a “well-dressed man…as mysterious as he is wealthy…he is an acquaintance of the Queen family and a prominent figure in Starling City.” The Queen family refers to the Green Arrow’s name of Oliver Queen, the former mayor of Star City (which from the text may be renamed Starling City for the series?).
Speculation is that from the description it could be Stanley Dover Sr., a philanthropist but has a very, very dark side…
The CW has picked up two genre shows for series this fall, both we’ve mentioned before: Arrow, based on the Green Arrow comics, and remake of the 1980’s classic modern retelling of Beauty And The Beast…check out the preview videos below!
Deadline is reporting that Stephen Amell (Hung, Private Practice) will star as the Green Arrow in a pilot for CW, which appears to have dropped “Green” from the title and will go with just Arrow. The Green Arrow is the superhero identity of wealthy playboy billionaire Oliver Queen, who uses all sorts of trick arrows to defeat his enemies.
Following up on last week’s news that the CW was developing Green Arrow, tonight Deadline reports that the CW has given it the green light to go to pilot. Also given a green light is a reboot of the 1980’s cult favorite series Beauty and the Beast from Jennifer Levin (Without A Trace) and Sherri Cooper (Brothers And Sisters).
The CW is apparently spinning off a character from Smallville…according to Deadline, they are near deal for a pilot from Greg Berlanti and Marc Guggenheim (writers of The Green Lantern) and Andrew Kreisberg (Vampire Diaries, Fringe, Warehouse 13), for a series based on the Green Arrow, the DC comic book hero that dresses like Robin Hood and uses a variety of high tech arrows (glue, explosive, tar gas, etc.) to fight as a crusader.
It does not appear, however, that the new series would be directly connected to Smallville. The character was portrayed in that series by Justin Hartley, who is not attached to the new production.
