Syfy’s Thanksgiving weekend: Helix “Black Goo” marathon, Z Nation, Haven and more
by Doc on Nov.12, 2014, under Television
Syfy has set their schedule for the Thanksgiving weekend, chock full of black gooey goodness…
Syfy will kick off the movie fun on Thanksgiving, Thursday, November 27 beginning at 9:30AM (ET/PT) with 2001: A Space Odyssey, followed by Star Trek Nemesis, Space Cowboys, Stargate and Poseidon.
To get fans ready for the return of Helix, Syfy will telecast the entire first season of the hit drama on Friday, November 28 from 6AM-6PM. The Black Goo Friday marathon features cast interviews as well as a never-before-seen sneak peek of Season 2, which premieres Friday, January 16 at 10PM.
Haven (7PM), SmackDown (8PM) and Z Nation (10PM) will comprise the Friday primetime schedule.
The Saturday, November 29 movie marathon will begin at 10AM, highlighted by classic science fiction flicks ranging from Fifth Element and Terminator 2 to Blade: Trinity.
The holiday programming extravaganza will conclude on Sunday, November 30, beginning at 10:30AM, with movies such as 30 Days of Night and The Happening.
Haven preview: “Morbidity”
by Doc on Nov.06, 2014, under Television
When Audrey and other residents are overcome by a mysterious illness, the truth about the Troubles could be exposed to the outside world. Check out the preview below, and tune in for “Morbidity” Friday at 7/6c on Syfy!
As a side note, Syfy announced that WWE Smackdown, which has owned Friday nights for a long time, will move to Thursdays starting January 15th. This will free up the 8-10pm slot on Friday, which could allow Haven to move up to a better slot – it was moved to Friday due to the competition from NFL Thursday night games, but because Smackdown wasn’t going to budge from its slot (it is after all regularly beating all other cable programming), and Z Nation was hitting it big at 10pm, it only left 7pm for Haven. So let’s hope it moves up to 9pm with the switch and Syfy gives it a boost with a catch-up marathon or something.

WWE’s Christian to reunite with pal Edge on Haven
by Doc on Oct.24, 2014, under Television
Jay Reso, also known as WWE Superstar Christian, will reunite with his lifelong friend and former tag team partner Adam Copeland, aka WWE Hall of Famer Edge, for a recurring guest arc on Syfy’s fan-favorite series, Haven, which airs Fridays at 7 p.m. ET/PT. Reso will appear in an all-new episode airing November 28, and will reprise the role for two additional episodes airing later in 2015.
Life imitates art with Reso portraying McHugh, one of Dwight’s (Copeland) oldest and closest friends. McHugh is smart, with ice water for blood, hammers for fists and a dogged sense of loyalty. McHugh and Dwight served as Army Rangers together, as well as members of The Guard. But McHugh left this life for a simpler one, determined to remain out of the line of fire. Dwight knows he could use the help of his fierce friend, but respects McHugh’s desire to live under the radar.
When Dwight finds himself in a romantic conundrum in the episode “Chemistry,” McHugh is the first one Dwight turns to. McHugh counsels Dwight through the challenge, while also considering joining forces with his old friend to once again defend the town of Haven, Maine.

Programming Alert: Haven moves to Friday 7/6c next week!
by Doc on Oct.02, 2014, under Television
Haven is moving to Fridays again! The drawback – it will be airing at 7/6c – earlier than Syfy usually programs first run original content. The NFL has really messed up Thursday night programming for networks (and not to mention my fantasy football teams), so apparently they move is to get out from under the Thursday Night Football shadow. But since WWE Smackdown owns the 8-10pm slot, 7pm was the choice. Presumably it should do at least as well if not better there, although I wonder if some of the viewers may shift further into the Live+3 and Live+7 numbers.
