Syfy’s Neverland – How the great adventure began – plus new previews

by on Nov.28, 2011, under Television

Next Sunday will mark the debut of Syfy’s latest fairy tale mini-series, Neverland, which will air in two parts on Sunday, December 4th, and Monday, December 5th, at 9/8c. Unlike the previous mini-series (Tin Man and Alice), it is not a twisted retelling of the story, but actually an origin prequel which explains how Peter became the “boy who never grew up”, how James Hook became a pirate captain who battles Peter, and how they and the Lost Boys found themselves in a place called Neverland where no one grows old. It stars Rhys Ifans as James Hook, Charlie Rowe as Peter Pan, and Anna Friel as pirate captain Elizabeth Bonny, along with Bob Hoskins (reprising his Hook role as Smee), Charles Dance (Dr. Fludd), Q’orianka Kilcher (the Native American princess Aaya), and Keira Knightley (the voice of Tinker Bell).

by on Oct.15, 2011, under Television

How did Peter Pan and Captain Hook end up in Neverland? How did Peter learn to fly? Was Hook always a pirate? How is it they never grow up? In general, how did they become the characters we are familiar with?

That is the premise behind the upcoming Neverland – a prequel or origin story to J.M. Barrie’s Peter Pan, and stars Rhys Ifans (Notting Hill, The Replacements, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 1), Anna Friel (Limitless, Land of the Lost), and Charlie Rowe (The Golden Compass), who joined us along with Syfy President of Original Content Mark Stern to discuss the mini-series which will air on Sunday, December 4th and Monday December 5th at 9pm ET.

Syfy Digital Press Tour, Part 1 – Luau and Halloween Horror Nights

by on Oct.13, 2011, under Fun Stuff, Television

This year’s Syfy Digital Press Tour started a little differently – last year there was a low-key reception dinner just with the Syfy executives – this year it was a luau theme, complete with Hawaiian shirts, a fire dancer, and this time, with the talent! One of the first I met while waiting for it to begin was Rhys Ifans, the actor who has played a wide variety of roles such as a the crazy roommate in Notting Hill, “The Leg” in The Replacements, Xenophilius Lovegood in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 1, and now James Hook in the upcoming Neverland and Dr. Curt Conners/The Lizard in The Amazing Spider-Man.
