In case you are missing it, Real Life Comics is doing a Stargate SG-1 themed thread, which you can start reading from here (there are a couple interstitial comics not related to the thread as well). Real Life, done by Greg Dean, is a long running web comic with gaming and sci-fi fan elements while tracking the real life and friends of the artist.
So, what ever happened to the Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis direct-to-DVD movies that we’ve been expecting? TV Death Ray has an interview with Brad Wright which covers a number of things, mainly about Stargate Universe, but also what happened. “The only thing that is blocking the SG-1 movie or the Atlantis movie, the only thing, is the fact that the direct-to-DVD market has gone away,” he said. “And, of course, there have been very big changes at MGM that kind of added to that.” Yeah, a company that can’t get an expected cash cow off the ground like The Hobbit probably isn’t going to front the money for direct-to-DVD features if they perceive the lack of a market. But don’t fret – “We have a plan B, and I’ve been talking with MGM about it, and hopefully we’ll still get our chance.”
As an update for our Stargate SG-1: Children Of The Gods review, some segments from the special features are now available. Read More to see them.
I’ve seen a pre-release copy of the upcoming Stargate SG-1 – Children Of The Gods (released July 21st), which is a re-release of the original Stargate SG-1 pilot, re-edited to fix some nagging issues and make for a tighter story. Read More to find out more about it.
Amanda Tapping, in an interview mostly regarding Sanctuary, was asked about whether the upcoming Stargate Atlantis DVD movie had been shot yet – it hadn’t. But in the process she let slip, “And apparently there’s an SG-1 movie as well that will be happening.” First I’ve heard of it, and there are no other details, but interesting news none the less.
I’ve done some housekeeping and updates to the Sci-Fi Storm Stores. Check out the stores for anything you need to fill out your collections – and in some cases, getting the new all-inclusive sets might be cheaper than getting a few of the individual items. Some new updates: The next classic episodes of Doctor Who come out May 5th and are The E-Space Trilogy (Full Circle/State of Decay/Warriors’ Gate) and “Battlefield” (and a reminder that the Key To Time episodes are out March 3rd); Season 1 of Earth: Final Conflict is finally being released, years after seasons 3-5; The DVD packs of the Star Trek have been replaced by the Remastered editions, and there is a new Complete Movie Collection that is quite reasonably priced; and the Stargate SG-1 DVD releases of The Ark Of Truth and Continuum get a combined Blu-Ray disc along with a DVD set March 3rd. And a reminder – buying ANYTHING from Amazon.com after following our links helps keep us here.
Actor Don S. Davis, best known for his role as Major General George Hammond in command of the SGC on Stargate SG-1, as well as numerous appearances in other genre and mainstream shows and movies (he was the Racine coach in A League Of Their Own), passed away Sunday from a massive heart attack at the age of 65.
Stargate: Continuum, the second direct-to-DVD Stargate SG-1 movie, will be released on July 29th on DVD. A Blu-Ray release is also planned, but I do not know at this time if its the same day. Three weeks before that, Stargate Atlantis sees its Fourth Season released on July 8th.
