Syfy lines up fairy tale double feature in February starring Tinsel Korey and Shannon Doherty; Gina Holden takes on the Mysterious Island

Syfy takes Rewind to pilot

In its first pilot order since 2010, Syfy has ordered a two-hour pilot called Rewind, and action-thriller from Justin Marks (Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li, 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea: Captain Nemo), BermanBraun and Universal Cable Productions.
BermanBraun also produces Alphas, which was one of the pilot orders from 2010, along with Three Inches, which was described in Syfy’s Spring 2011 development slate, but did not get to series.

Syfy’s multi-platform Defiance gets TV star with Bowler

Syfy’s upcoming Defiance, a combination TV show and massive-multiplayer open world game being developed between Universal Cable Productions and Trion Worlds, has its first TV star with Grant Bowler, the New Zealander who previously appeared on True Blood, Lost, and Ugly Betty. Syfy’s president of original content Mark Stern said, “Grant’s charismatic charm and his depth as an actor make him the perfect anchor as we build the ensemble for this sweeping adventure series.”
Bowler will play Jeb Nolan, a “boomtown lawkeeper” on an Earth ravaged by war where now humans and aliens coexist, in a sort of western/sci-fi mix.
The TV pilot is being written by SF TV veteran Rockne S. O’Bannon. The game will be available on multiple platforms. No release dates have been set, but a trailer for the game is available at the official web site.

Syfy orders 7 more episodes for upcoming Warehouse 13 season

Syfy has ordered 7 more episodes of hit series Warehouse 13 to give the upcoming 4th season a total of 20 episodes. Warehouse 13 remains the network’s most popular series, which follows two Secret Service agents (Joanne Kelly and Eddie McClintock) who track down strange artifacts, under the tutelage of Artie (Saul Rubinek) and with the assistance of a tech wiz (Allison Scagliotti).
Syfy sets debut of Monster Man for March 14th

Monster Man, the upcoming unscripted show on Syfy that follows monster creator Cleve Hall and his family and friends at SOTA FX, will premion Wednesday, March 14 at 11PM (ET/PT), immediately following the second season finale of Face Off at 10 PM (ET/PT). Monster Man will return to its regular timeslot, Wednesdays at 10 PM (ET/PT), the following week on March 21. (Check out our preview of Monster Man (and Face Off) from the press event in October.)

January Syfy Saturday movies will collide planets and erupt a volcano

Syfy plans to make a mess of the Earth this month with a pair of Saturday original movies.
In Collision Earth, premiering Saturday, January 14 at 9PM (ET/PT), a solar flare knocks Mercury out of its orbit and onto a collision course with Earth. With global devastation quickly approaching, the secret military initiative, “Project 7,” must be activated to save the world from disaster. Collision Earth stars Kirk Acevedo (Fringe) and Diane Farr (Californication), and is a production of Cinetel Films.
In Swamp Volcano, premiering Saturday, January 28 at 9PM (ET/PT), oil rig drillers in the Gulf of Mexico accidentally hit an underground lava flow, causing a massive volcano to form in Miami. Now a vulcanologist and her sister attempt to blow the whistle on an illegal oil drilling scheme before it sets off the eruption that will destroy civilization. Swamp Volcano stars Rachel Hunter (The Benchwarmers) and Brad Dourif (Lord of the Rings) and is a production of Bullet Films.
Tracey Gold to star in Arachnoquake on Syfy

Tracey Gold, the child actor who starred on Growing Pains in the 80s and then fought a public battle with anorexia to become a spokesperson for treating the disease, and starred in many TV movies, will join the cast of Arachnoquake, an upcoming Syfy Saturday original movie scheduled to premiere on Syfy in 2012.

Syfy to have best year ever in 2011

2011 may not have been kind to the economy, but it sure was kind to Syfy. With record viewership and double-digit growth in younger demographics, 2011 will be the best year ever for the network.
Fueled by its critically acclaimed popular programming, Syfy is on pace to make 2011 its most watched prime year ever, averaging 1.33 million total viewers – up 10% compared to 2010.
In addition to climbing 5% in Adults 18-49 (569,000) and +1% in Adults 25-54 (633,000), Syfy will also set a new viewership record among Men total viewers (756,000).
Continuing its growth among younger viewers, Syfy surged +14% in Adults18-34 (219,000), +21% in Men 18-34 (126,000) and +7% in Women 18-34 (93,000).
