CW developing Mars Colony drama

by on Oct.10, 2013, under Television

The CW is developing Colony, a drama about a group of explorers who colonize Mars, “willing to leave their lives behind to brave the dangers of another planet, and the terrifying reality they discover.”

The CW is partnering with CBS TV Studios and Kennedy-Marshall for the project, with Ian Goldberg (Once Upon A Time, Flash Forward) writing the script. The story is based off the story of the Roanoke colony, called “The Lost Colony”, where all the colonists disappeared mysteriously between 1587 and 1560, with the only clues the word “Croatoan” carved into a fence and “Cro” carved into a tree.

Robert Zotnowski and Frank Marshall will executive produce for Kennedy-Marshall along with Goldberg.

CW takes The Tomorrow People to series

by on May.09, 2013, under Television

Among the various pilot yeas-and-nays going around today, one pickup we were following was the remake of 1970s BBC SF show The Tomorrow People.

From Warner Bros TV, Berlanti TV and FremantleMedia, The Tomorrow People is the story of several young people from around the world who represent the next stage in human evolution, possessing special powers, including the ability to teleport and communicate with each other telepathically. Together they work to defeat the forces of evil. Based upon the original UK series created by Roger Price in the vein of X-Men and Heroes. Robbie Amell, Madeleine Mantock, Peyton List, Luke Mitchell, Mark Pellegrino, and Aaron Yoo star. Phil Klemmer is the writer and executive producer with Julie Plec, Greg Berlanti and Danny Cannon, who also directed the pilot. Melissa Kellner Berman is co-exec producer.

CW’s The Tomorrow People pilot gains Mark Pellegrino, Robbie Amell

by on Feb.22, 2013, under Television

The CW Network’s pilot The Tomorrow People – a remake of the 70s classic BBC children’s show, presumably with an older tone – has signed a couple stars.

Robbie Amell (1600 Penn, True Jackson, V.P.) will take the lead role as Stephen, one of the “Tomorrow People”, a group of young people “who represent the next stage in human evolution and work together to defeat the forces of evil.” Mark Pellegrino (Being Human, Supernatural) will play Dr. Jedikiah Price, an evolutionary biologist determined to contain the “threat” posed by them.

In addition, Luke Mitchell (Home and Away) will play John Young, another of the Tomorrow People who can teleport and recruits others, while Peyton List (Mad Men) Cara, the (lone?) female of the group.

Greg Berlanti (Arrow) and Julie Plec (The Vampire Diaries) will executive produce, with a script from Phil Klemmer (Chuck).

Based on some upcoming books by Kass Morgan, The Hundred is set 97 years after a nuclear war has destroyed civilization. A spaceship housing the lone human survivors sends 100 juvenile delinquents back to Earth to investigate the possibility of re-colonizing the planet.

A variation of Lord of the Flies maybe?

The CW picks up full season order for Arrow

by on Oct.22, 2012, under Television

After only two episodes aired, Arrow appears to be impressing both viewers and the network. The CW has already given a full season order for the freshman hero drama, after the premiere became the network’s most-watched show in several years, and the second airing held the ratings – something no other freshman drama has done this fall.

Barrowman join’s CW’s Arrow

by on Aug.15, 2012, under Television

Torchwood‘s (and Doctor Who‘s) own Captain Jack will be back on TV – in the U.S. no less – as EW Inside TV reports actor John Barrowman has joined the cast of the CW’s Arrow, based on the DC Comics superhero Green Arrow, in a recurring role.

Although the name of the role isn’t mentioned, he is described as a “well-dressed man…as mysterious as he is wealthy…he is an acquaintance of the Queen family and a prominent figure in Starling City.” The Queen family refers to the Green Arrow’s name of Oliver Queen, the former mayor of Star City (which from the text may be renamed Starling City for the series?).

Speculation is that from the description it could be Stanley Dover Sr., a philanthropist but has a very, very dark side…
