Bad (or not?) news for Torchwood fans…the plans for Fox to work with the BBC on a U.S. version of Torchwood have been shut down. BBC Worldwide is still pursuing other options though – and a U.S. version is still a possibility, and that there are other interested networks.

Torchwood moving to U.S.??

by on Jan.19, 2010, under Television

This is interesting – Fox is apparently developing a U.S. version of Torchwood – but with the existing production team, and possibly with some of the cast including John Barrowman (Capt. Jack Harkness). It doesn’t sound like a remake though, but could be an extension of the existing story that relocates the surviving members of Torchwood 3 to the U.S. but with a global scope…and another interesting note at the end of the article: Jane Tranter (executive VP of programming and production at BBC Worldwide, who is producing) may also try to reboot Doctor Who over hear as well somehow, related to David Tennant being in the U.S. for his U.S. pilot. Not sure what that means though…

Two hopeful announcements at least…the sequel to Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog appears to be moving along, with Nathan Fillion saying a title has been chosen and now co-writer Zack Whedon saying that they will be able to get seriously underway after production wrap for Dollhouse – and it looks like everyone is on board. On the other side of the Atlantic, Russell T. Davies says that despite the recession hitting British TV, he believes that more Torchwood would likely get under way in January.

Torchwood: Children of Earth, which aired last week on BBC America is out on DVD and Blu-ray tomorrow, but I’ve had the opportunity to view the DVD today. I do not believe the Blu-ray differs in content, other than it has an HD audio track compared to the DVD’s standard Dolby 5.1 track (and of course, an HD transfer).
