Syfy to take viewers and contestants to Opposite Worlds
by Doc on Oct.23, 2013, under Television
Syfy today announced the greenlight of Opposite Worlds, an all-new reality competition series – with an interactive twist – from Eyeworks USA. Set to premiere January 21, 2014, Opposite Worlds will run for 12 episodes over six weeks (two episodes per week), with the second weekly episode featuring a live element (a first for a Syfy reality series).
In Opposite Worlds, 14 people from all walks of life face off in opposing teams that live in a house separated into two distinctly different worlds: one past and one future, each with its own unique advantages and disadvantages. Adding to the drama is a glass wall dividing the house into the two environments, allowing the teams to watch, envy and dread each other’s every move.
Every week, as cast members compete in a series of fast-paced challenges, viewers will be asked to participate in real time on social media and affect the outcome of each player’s fate.
Said Dave Howe, President, Syfy and Chiller: “Building on the success of Defiance, Opposite Worlds delivers on Syfy’s on-going strategy to create fully immersive 360 transmedia experiences in both the scripted and now unscripted worlds. It invites our audience, who thrive on seeking out what’s new and next, to participate in the ultimate multiplatform experience. And with Syfy’s first-ever weekly live series, they will have the opportunity to become a part of a groundbreaking social experiment, which engages them, as well as the players onscreen, to influence the show’s story-telling action and outcomes.”
Opposite Worlds will be executive produced by JD Roth, Todd A. Nelson, Brant Pinvidic and Adam Kaloustian for Eyeworks USA. The series is based on the hit Chilean format, Mundos Opuestos, originally broadcast on Canal 13.

Syfy renews Face Off for sixth season
by Doc on Oct.21, 2013, under Television
Syfy announces that its critically-acclaimed hit reality competition series Face Off will return for a sixth season in January 2014, introducing 14 new makeup artists in what will be Face Off’s boldest season yet. In the new season the contestants will face extreme challenges that will inspire them to create the most magnificent characters and creatures in Face Off history. And coming this November, Syfy debuts two original Face Off specials – “Naked and Painted” and “Judges’ Favorites”.
Season five of Face Off is in all new episodes Tuesday nights at 9PM ET/PT on Syfy. In tomorrow night’s episode, the remaining five are tasked with creating an original dark elf warrior character. The remaining five artists on season five are Miranda Jory of Los Angeles, CA; Laney Parkhurst of Manitou Beach, MI; Tate Steinsiek of Morris, OK; Laura Tyler of Orlando, FL; and Roy Wooley of Tucker, GA.
The competition culminates with the season five finale on Tuesday, November 5 at 9PM (ET/PT) when the final three contestants each create two lead characters from Swan Lake: a woman transforming into a swan and the sorcerer who casts the spell on her. These finale makeups will be put to the test in an epic performance by the Los Angeles Ballet.

Check out the preview for Star Wars Rebels
by Doc on Oct.16, 2013, under Television
Star Wars: The Clone Wars may be over, but the story goes on…Star Wars Rebels will begin next Fall, and Dave Filoni is giving us a little taste, courtesy of this video shown at New York Comic-Con. And we get a glimpse of Rebels Big Bad…a Pau’an known only at this point as the Imperial Inquisitor, who is sent by Darth Vader to hunt down the surviving Jedi…which makes me wonder if there were more survivors than just Yoda and Obi-Wan…and whether Ahsoka might make an appearance.
Star Wars Rebels takes place in the interim between Episodes III and IV.
