Announcement trailer for Star Trek: Into Darkness!

by on Dec.06, 2012, under Television

Check out the 1 minute “announcement” trailer for Star Trek: Into Darkness! We now actually see something of the movie, and bad guy star Benedict Cumberbatch…time for more speculation! I still think Gary Mitchell is possible (he and Kirk appear to know each other at one point)…but another thing – they turn the Enterprise into a submarine?!? Star Trek: Into Darkness opens May 17th, 2013.

by on Dec.05, 2012, under Television

Syfy is planning on closing out 2012 (and perhaps the world) with a holiday programming festival featuring an End of the World movie marathon – in case the Mayan apocalyptic prediction proves false – along with a Star Trek film extravaganza, the Doctor Who spinoff K-9 and, of course, the annual Twilight Zone New Year’s Eve journey into the Fifth Dimension.

Official synposis for Star Trek: Into Darkness

by on Nov.27, 2012, under Movies

Finally, something about what is going on in the upcoming Star Trek movie! J.J. Abrams hasn’t been very forthcoming, so far only showing a fraction of a second of film, but now we’ve got a synopsis to give us some idea of what the movie is about:

In Summer 2013, pioneering director J.J. Abrams will deliver an explosive action thriller that takes Star Trek Into Darkness.

When the crew of the Enterprise is called back home, they find an unstoppable force of terror from within their own organization has detonated the fleet and everything it stands for, leaving our world in a state of crisis.

With a personal score to settle, Captain Kirk leads a manhunt to a war-zone world to capture a one man weapon of mass destruction.

As our heroes are propelled into an epic chess game of life and death, love will be challenged, friendships will be torn apart, and sacrifices must be made for the only family Kirk has left: his crew.

So, this doesn’t sound at all like the return of Khan Noonian Singh, which all the early rumors claimed that Benedict Cumberbatch was playing. But who could the unstoppable force be? Gary Mitchell, anyone?

Star Trek‘s Walter Koenig gets star on Hollywood Walk of Fame

by on Sep.17, 2012, under Television

]This article was written last week – for some reason it never posted]

Walter Koenig, best known for his role as the original Ensign Pavel Chekov in Star Trek but also as Psi Cop Bester in Babylon 5, received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame yesterday. You can see the video of the ceremony at the official web page of the HWOF.

Some may be unaware of Walter’s other contributions to science fiction however. He also made a couple of appearances in the Canadian cult SF series The Starlost as the alien Oro (complete with gold jumpsuit – see our Retro Review on the series), but he also wrote episodes for TV shows including Star Trek: The Animated Series (episode “The Infinite Vulcan”) and Land of the Lost (“The Stranger”, which introduced the Altrusian Enik). I remember being fascinated as a kid when I figured out the writer of the episode was Chekov…

Well done, Walter, and congratulations!

Star Trek sequel gets title – Star Trek: Into Darkness

by on Sep.10, 2012, under Movies

Well, everyone was hoping that the full title of the upcoming sequel to Star Trek would clue us in on who the big bad is, played by Sherlock‘s Benedict Cumberbatch – which has long-rumored-but-vehemently-denied to be Khan.

Well, Paramount has released the full name: Star Trek: Into Darkness – and I’m not sure that tells us much of anything. Sounds more like a spin-off novel or something… 🙂

HerUniverse adds Doctor Who and Star Trek to apparel lineup

by on Jul.12, 2012, under Gear, Television

Our friend and favorite fangirl Ashley Eckstein and her Her Universe brand has added two new properties to her apparel line – Doctor Who and Star Trek! (Apparently these were announced while I was on vacation, but they went on sale this week!)

"Something Borrowed" Her Universe T-shirtIn her Star Trek shop, there are Enterprise-D and Uhura uniform T-shirts, an “I’ve got a crush on Crusher” T (I wonder if she wears that around Comic-Con and happens upon Wil Wheaton what would happen…), an “I Grok Spock” T, and a “LLAP” (Live Long and Prosper) purple women’s polo.

Out of the Whoniverse comes three T-shirt styles: A “Hell in High Heels” V-neck featuring some high heels, referring to what the Doctor called River Song; a “Something Blue” V-neck with a drawing of the TARDIS and the “Something borrowed…” saying; and a scoop-neck T featuring the Van Gogh painting of the exploding TARDIS!

So jealous…heck, I’d wear a Princess Leia hoodie if I could go to Comic-Con this year…

Star Trek‘s Scotty says Cumberbatch is NOT Khan!

by on May.29, 2012, under Movies

In an interview with The Telegraph, British actor Simon Pegg, who plays Scotty in the rebooted Star Trek movies, talked a bit about fellow Brit actor Benedict Cumberbatch and his role in the upcoming Star Trek sequel – which has long been rumored to be Khan Noonian Singh, the role originated in the original series and masterfully reprised in Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan by Ricardo Montalban.

“It’s not Khan,” Pegg says, however. And apparently, he’s annoyed at the whole matter. “That’s a myth. Everyone’s saying it is, but it’s not…I think people just want to have a scoop. It annoys me – it’s beyond the point to just ferret around for spoilers all the time to try to be the first to break them.”

As for the actual character, he can’t say much, but he does say he’s “not just another disgruntled alien. It’s a really interesting… sort of… thing.” Which just piques our curiosity that much further.
